Job Purpose
The Life Skills Program Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the programming offered through the New Beginnings House run smoothly. They will liaise with other departments to ensure service delivery is comprehensive and fulfills the deliverables of the family services department, health center and mental health program. The life skills coordinator will be responsible for maintaining day to day operational stock as well as for advocating for any issues with he NBH building or property.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Aid in the development and implementation of programs to be run within the “New Beginnings” House.
- Support program facilitation as necessary.
- Ensure all necessary supplies are on hand for required programming and events while staying within the programing budget.
- Monitor and manage expenditures and budgets for the Life Skills program delivery.
- Survey attendees and community members for programs which they would find effective and try to incorporate their feedback whenever possible.
- Collaborate with the Health and Family Services teams to develop a monthly and yearly calendar.
- Apply for grants and funding opportunities that can increase and expand our programming or supplement our existing programs.
- Ensure calendar coincides with other existing SFN Programs and Community events.
- Laisse with other Saulteau First Nations departments for collaboration opportunities
- Evoke learnings through tradition and culture where possible.
- Promote your program through a variety of communication avenues and try to elicit participation from community members.
- Ensure yard and building maintenance requests are made as needed.
Other Related Duties
- Participates actively as a SFN representative in collaborative partner networks and related community activities.
- Ensure that programming schedule allows for MCFD supervised visits and client meetings in the program house.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum high school diploma, with preference given to those with post-secondary education and/or direct experience working in vulnerable sectors such as child services, social assistance, or counselling
- Experience in program development and facilitation considered an asset
- Ability to build, monitor and maintain a budget
- Knowledge of First Nations culture and traditions
- Awareness and understanding around the impact from trauma and inter-generational trauma resulting from colonial policies
- Ability to respond to problematic behavior using an understanding of the behavior’s context and function
- Strong community engagement skills and the ability to build partnerships
- Must maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Possess good written and oral communication skills
- Valid BC Driver’s License
- Ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check
Work Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in the office with hours of work set as 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
- Travel may be required within SFN community and surrounding community.
- Some evening and weekend work may be necessary.
- Wage Range: $24.12-$27.74/Hr.
