Nature and Scope
Reporting to the Manager, Ancillary Operations (MAO) and collaborating closely with the Manager, Theatre Front of House Operations (MTFOHO), The Venue Security Coordinator is responsible for delivering professional and reliable security and customer services in Students’ Association (SA) event spaces. The Venue Security Coordinator plays a crucial role in planning, executing, and overseeing security for events in the Theatre and other SA spaces while also leading Stage Door Attendant activities, including green room and dressing room supervision. As a key leader of the security team, the Venue Security Coordinator ensures the safety of patrons and staff by upholding rules and regulations across all SA areas. This position requires that the incumbent establish harmonious and productive relationships with Students’ Association departments, college officials, student groups and the outside community.
Job Duties
- Oversee and supervise Theatre backstage areas, loading dock, and event security operations, including ensuring proper set-ups and reset of event supplies, and general support of “event-day” activities.
- Act as a coordinator for security staff at SA events/activities, ensuring compliance with venue policies, AGCO regulations, and participating in performance reviews.
- In conjunction with the MTFOHO, assist with the recruitment, hiring, and training of event security staff.
- Ensure current/valid Ontario Certification of Registration to employ security staff, and that all security staff working on site have up-to-date & valid licenses.
- Ensure familiarity with all upcoming events in all SA spaces to keep safety & security concerns front of mind.
- Ensure the venue and staff adhere to all health, safety, and first aid protocols, including managing first aid supplies, and facilitating CPR training for all SA Full-Time Staff.
- Be neat, clean, and presentable with the proper staff attire when working.
- Event and Security Management:
- Oversee and supervise the backstage areas, stage door access, and loading dock activities, ensuring compliance with SA policies, AGCO regulations, and security protocols.
- Coordinate event security, including staff scheduling, training support, performance review input, and monitoring of patron behavior to ensure safety and adherence to venue standards.
- Act as one of the initial point of contacts during event-bookings for clients and guests, providing clear directions and ensuring proper access control, accreditation, and security documentation.
- Administrative and Operational Support:
- Help to maintain and manage the inventory, storage, and distribution of backstage and security equipment, including radios, wristbands, towels, flashlights, etc.
- Responsible to ensure that both interior and exterior spaces in the Backstage area are kept clean, organized, and looking new
- Ensuring all Stage Door and Security details are tracked and updated in the Venue Booking Portal/Calendar
- Ensuring accurate tracking and reconciliation of event and staff hours on event days
- Support in tracking and coding position-related invoices for payment.
- Support the development and maintain of training manuals for security and backstage operations, and support staff in their roles to ensure smooth event execution and venue readiness.

Desired Skills and Qualifications
- At least 5 years of experience in event security and staff management, with a proven track record of leadership and supervision of part-time and/or contracted staff.
- Strong familiarity with industry standards for event safety and security, including the ability to plan, prioritize, and oversee the security of multiple events simultaneously while ensuring a safe working environment.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with demonstrated abilities in collaboration, teamwork, and relationship building with both internal staff and external security partners.
- Active participation in venue staff recruitment and retention initiatives, with a demonstrated ability to attract and retain employees.
- Mandatory certifications: Valid Security License, First Aid, and CPR, with a CPR Trainer Certificate
- Driver’s License considered assets.
- Bilingualism in English and French is an asset.
Compensation:
- This position is part of CUPE Local 5144 – pay Level 4 ($30.58-$33.88). The pay rate will be updated as per the new CBA.
- This position is a full-time term position, 35 hours a week (work week will be flexible with some weeks being more hours and some less hours, and workdays may change from week to week and will include evening and weekend hours)
