This is a group of brilliant, high-performing individuals who are motivated, collaborative, and set up for continued success. We’re looking for a confident, forward-thinking leader to guide the team’s growth, push for technical excellence, and support collaboration across regions and disciplines.
The team works across environmental, architectural, and underwater acoustics, supporting a wide range of public and private sector clients across Canada, the US and globally. We deliver impactful work across planning, permitting, compliance, design, and policy. This national leadership role requires someone with strong commercial instincts, people skills, and a progressive mindset.
The right candidate will be able to balance technical delivery with team support, financial oversight, and strategic input. You’ll work closely with other managers across SLR to connect opportunities, solve problems, and ensure the team continues to thrive.
The successful applicant will report to the Service Line Operations Manager for Environmental Sciences and will collaborate with leaders across the business. This includes regional and global teams, where you will help shape performance, share knowledge, and contribute to long-term impact.
At SLR, our philosophy is to attract, develop, and retain the best people in our industry. We care deeply about enabling our staff to grow and succeed. This role is a great opportunity to do just that for both you and others.
As Technical Discipline Manager (TDM) for Acoustics and Vibration in Canada, you will:
- Lead and inspire a growing national team, maintaining a positive culture and supporting individual development, wellbeing, and career progression.
- Balance people leadership with technical delivery, providing proactive hands-on support while encouraging autonomy across the team.
- Drive performance against revenue, profitability, and productivity targets, with a strong focus on financial health, forecasting, and work pipeline planning.
- Be a strategic connector across SLR, collaborating with Service Line leaders, Sector leads, TDMs, and project managers to align resourcing, business development, and project delivery.
- Foster relationships with key clients and partners, supporting work-winning efforts and helping define the strategic direction of our acoustics and vibration offering.
- Ensure technical quality and that staff have access to the right training, mentorship, and tools to deliver excellent work.
- Promote collaboration and alignment across regions and international teams, contributing to global initiatives and cross-border projects where appropriate.
- Support compliance with health, safety, and quality management systems.
- Bring solutions, helping the team and wider business improve continuously by identifying opportunities and driving positive changes.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Strong technical background in one or more areas of acoustics and vibration. Including environmental, architectural, or underwater acoustics, with a broad awareness of industry types and client needs. A wide range of experience is an advantage.
- 5+ years of experience in a senior role, including project management, client leadership, or team oversight.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire teams, with excellent communication skills and a positive, motivating leadership style.
- Confidence to provide clear direction and push for improvement while empowering others to succeed.
- Commercial awareness and a track record of contributing to financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and project profitability.
- Ability to operate independently, take initiative, and bring energy and ideas into an environment where support may be limited.
- A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work closely with sector leaders, project managers, and other teams across regions and service lines.
- Strong strategic thinking and ability to contribute to broader business development goals and project resourcing discussions.
This is a dynamic and multifaceted role that draws on strengths in technical leadership, business development, client engagement, and operational management. While individuals may bring different strengths to the table, success in this role depends on being proactive, adaptable, and able to contribute meaningfully across a broad range of responsibilities.
