Objective:
To oversee the day-to-day operations of the social enterprise to meet Organizational and Operational goals.
This is a one-year full time contract position, with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent full-time role based on performance.
Summary:
The Operations Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day processes of CPAA social enterprise department, including the supervision of Operations employees, coordinating logistics and administrative duties. The Supervisor will report to the Operations Business Development Manager/Operations Manager and assist in delivering the Operational goals of the department.
Staff Supervision and Dispatch:
- Manage the daily supervision of all reports, including performance, scheduling, training and reporting absences.
- Oversee truck drivers’ routes, schedules, communications, concerns, and step in operationally when needed. Connect with drivers to ensure smooth day-to-day logistics.
- Taking calls from donors and drivers after-hours as needed
- Full cycle recruitment: creating job descriptions, interviewing and on-boarding
- Arrange shift coverage during absences, including stepping in when required as needed, including outside of usual working hours (evenings / weekends).
- Maintain a positive working environment and achieve organizational goals.
- Hold regular staff meetings to maintain communication amongst team and deliver key information, including addressing H&S matters
- Ensure staff are following processes and procedures at all times
Staff Training and Safety:
- Train drivers on how to perform required tasks as needed
- Oversee and manage the Health and Safety program for the Operation’s Department
- Maintain a safe working environment by upholding all H&S procedures
- Ensure staff are following processes and procedures at all times
- Hold regular staff meetings in the operations department to maintain team communication, address health and safety issues, and educate drivers on potential hazards, safe work practices, and procedural updates.
Warehouse and Vehicle Management:
- Supervise and support warehouse staff in receiving, sorting, loading, and unloading donations
- Oversee bottle program, green bag initiative, and other warehouse-related projects
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within the warehouse environment
- Oversee company vehicles maintenance: vehicle maintenance logs, scheduling repairs and maintenance as needed.
Administration:
- Assist with Accounts Payable for the department, including processing invoices and providing PO’s
- Review Operational contracts with the Provincial Operations' Manager
- Data entry and file organization
- Assist in the department budget planning and implementation
- Collaborate with marketing team on operational material needs
- Work with internal staff and external volunteers on various events and initiatives.
Collaboration with Other Departments:
- Coordinate with the Provincial Operations Manager to oversee third-party contracts, track volume data, and suggest improvements
- Work cross-functionally with Marketing and other internal departments as required.
Other:
- Comply with CPAA policies and procedures.
- Ensure duties of the Operation’s team are covered during absences.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- Class 5 driver’s license, clean driver’s abstract, and reliable transportation
- Demonstrated intermediate to advanced computer proficiency — confident using Microsoft Excel/ Google Sheets, capable of learning specialized software (such as route management or scheduling systems), and experienced with cloud storage, file organization, video conferencing (e.g., Microsoft Teams), and digital mapping tools (e.g., Google Maps).

- Comfortable lifting up to 50 pounds as needed
- High integrity, accountability, and confidentiality
- Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
- Willingness to drive large truck if necessary.
Assets:
- Experience working in the nonprofit sector and or Business Administration education
- 3+ years of driving experience
- Experience working in a warehouse
- Experience supervising teams of 5+ staff in logistics, delivery, or warehouse settings
- Experience using Microsoft Teams and Excel
- Knowledge of donation-based business models or thrift/social enterprise work.
- CPR and First Aid.
- Forklift driving experience.
Working Conditions:
- Travel may be required within the Province. Combination of office and field-based work throughout Calgary and surrounding areas.
- Manual dexterity required for computer work
- May require lifting/moving up to 50 lbs
- This position may be exposed to elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes and oils
- Occasional overtime and provincial travel required
