Description
The Snowmaking Supervisor provides an outstanding experience for guests overseeing the snowmaking program, supplementing the Resort’s abundant natural snowfall with reliable coverage. The role focuses on safety, efficiency and works continuously through peak times during the early winter season. The Snowmaking Supervisor reports to the Senior Slopes Supervisor, liaising with the Mountain Operations Manager when required, and works closely with and alongside the Mountain Operations, Maintenance, and all outdoor departments.
Essential Functions
- The primary responsibility of this role is to complete orientation, training, and development of new and returning members in snowmaking and additional equipment, create a supportive and positive environment.
- Carrying out the safe and efficient operation of snowmaking, including monitoring, maintaining, and using equipment in accordance with policies and procedures and manufacturer’s specifications.
- This role schedules the work of the Snowmakers, focusing on operational needs, periods when conditions are suitable for making the best quality snow, and efficient use of the allotted water supply.
- Acquiring comprehensive knowledge of areas around the resort that will require snowmaking and the safe transport of materials and equipment to those areas as well as being responsible for snowmaking system setup at each location.
- Monitoring safety closures, signage, power lines, water lines, and any other equipment being utilized for snowmaking when snowmaking equipment is placed and operating.
- Using effective communication to communicate operational needs or guidance to team members.
- Timely and accurate workplace hazard assessments, and reporting of all safety hazards, incidents, and deficiencies to appropriate personnel.
- Ensuring proper recording of data (temperatures, water flow, water usage, etc.) from snowmaking operations.
- Other duties may be requested and assigned from time to time.
- Previous experience in snowmaking operations.
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred. A combination of experience, good mechanical aptitude, and a strong work ethic will be considered for the role.
- Experience in key areas of snowmaking operations: air compressors, water pumps, compressor/pump mechanics, electrical systems, instrumentation, fusing HDPE pipe, pipe laying, construction, and fan gun systems.
- Standard First Aid is preferred.
- Calm under pressure and patient, along with being punctual, and dependable.
- Must be prepared to work efficiently, safely, and without direct supervision.
- Prepared to work long, continuous shifts during peak snowmaking periods. Work will include flexible schedules and be outdoors, in all weather conditions.
- Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally.
- Maintain professional conduct when in uniform on or off-duty, and online.
- Effectively provide support and assistance to coworkers and ensure team members are always working in a safe and productive manner.
- Attend and actively participate in meetings, training, and company initiatives.
- Adherence to all company policies, and procedures.
- Employees must always be of sound mind, exhibit good judgment, and report to work fit for duty.
- This physical position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time, constant trunk rotation, and frequent lifting and arranging of heavy equipment.
- This role operates equipment and works with tools. Training signoffs are required.
- Driving a snowmobile is required, as is completion of the Resort’s training program prior to operation.
- Snowmakers work in a remote, alpine environment, and independent at most times during their shifts.
- Some outdoor uniform pieces (jacket, pants, liner) are provided. Additional items (helmet, proper footwear, layers) are required for the position.
