The Security Assistant Supervisor is in a highly visible role and provides an outstanding experience for guests and team members via protection and surveillance of the entire Sunshine Village leasehold. The Assistant Supervisor Security acts as the direct delegate for the Supervisor in many functions and ensures continuity of the Security program in the absence of a direct Superior. The Assistant Supervisor Security provides protection and surveillance to Sunshine Village guests, staff and property. The role has the responsibility to observe, record, and report findings that are outside normal situations. There are other situations where attention to detail and reporting requirements are increased, i.e. When dealing in issues involving the National Fire Code, the Criminal Code of Canada, and the Trespassers Act. The Assistant Supervisor will act as a mentor for all staff living and working outside the operating hours and may be contacted through the working Security individuals at any point. The Assistant Supervisor reports to the Security Supervisor and Mountain Operations Manager, and liaises frequently with all resort departments, vendors, contractors, and enforcement services.
Essential Functions
- The primary responsibility of this role is to assist the Supervisor in the work of the Security Team.
- Provide safekeeping to guests and employees for the entire Sunshine Village leasehold e.g., safety, security, fire.
- Responding to alarms appropriately and effectively.
- Coordinating and assisting in emergency response during shift and after hour emergencies. e.g., search and rescue, avalanches, lift and building evacuation.
- Assisting in performing routine pickups/drop offs in the local area e.g., equipment, supplies, mail.
- Observe, record and report findings that are not within the regular scope of Sunshine’s Policies and Procedures.
- Assist in functional roles associated with the operation of the department, including scheduling, payroll, liaising with other departments and groups.
- Timely completion of documentation e.g., routine logs, employee training, inspections.
- Communicating and adhering to company initiatives, policies, procedures, manufacturer guidelines, and relevant legislation e.g., Criminal Code, Parks act, Fire Code, AGLC, OHS, Occupiers Liability Act, Security Services and Investigators Act, Residential Tenancies Act, Trespass to Premises Act.
- Timely, accurate, and unbiased incident/deficiencies reporting to appropriate departments/personnel.
- Other duties may be requested and assigned from time to time.
- Must hold a valid Alberta Security Services Licence.
- Completed ProServe, ProTect training.
- Must be 21 years or old with a clean driving record – Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or equivalent) and drivers abstract evidencing last three (3) years in all relevant jurisdictions to be provided on start.
- Proven ability to lead a team and be self-motivated.
- Positive, professional attitude, with a demonstrated ability to be calm under pressure and patient.
- Willing/able to perform all duties or departmental tasks.
- Must possess good judgment and communication skills, and a strong ability to deescalate and manage potentially serious situations.
- Must possess a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products (Teams, Excel, Sharepoint).
- Prepared to work flexible schedules (weekends, early mornings, evenings, holidays, overnight shifts).
- Prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions e.g., appropriate footwear, layers, gloves
- Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally.
- Maintain professional conduct when in uniform on or off-duty, and online.
- Effectively provide support and assistance to coworkers and all Sunshine Village staff and volunteers.
- Calm under pressure and patient. Must be neat, alert, punctual, and dependable.
- Effective time management.
- Work in confidential capacity.
- Employees must always be of sound mind, exhibit good judgment, and report to work fit for duty.
- This physical position requires the ability to move around a large premises, standing for long periods of time and occasional heavy work.
- This role may operate machinery and vehicles.
- Personnel may at times work alone, and at night, and are in a remote, alpine environment.
- Ability to ski or snowboard is an asset but not required. Skiing or snowboarding for work requires completion of a competency test, skiing and riding professionally, and is restricted to designated runs.
- Skiing or snowboarding equipment used for work must be in good operating condition, meet Sunshine Village Equipment requirements, and may be tested throughout the season.
- Some required uniform pieces (liner, jacket, pants, radio) are provided. Forepersons must be prepared and wear appropriate footwear, gloves, layers etc. for the conditions.
