The Opportunity: Site Supervisor
The Site Supervisor plays a key leadership role on the construction team, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. Serving as the primary on-site authority, this position is responsible for managing all aspects of daily site operations—including safety, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and quality control—to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and in compliance with all regulatory and company standards. The ideal candidate brings a solid background in field supervision and site logistics, with strong communication and organizational skills, a hands-on approach to problem-solving, and a proven commitment to workplace safety and construction excellence. This role is integral to maintaining project momentum, enforcing COR and OHSA compliance, and supporting a productive, solutions-focused site.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee all aspects of site safety, maintenance, and compliance with COR documentation and standards.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager during pre-construction to review and update project outlines and schedules.
- Conduct project startup meetings as required.
- Participate in the development of the project work plan.
- Manage site mobilization and startup activities, including layout planning and the setup of trailers, restrooms, and generators.
- Review Letters of Intent (LOIs) and Purchase Orders (POs) with the Project Manager prior to issuance to ensure scopes of work and exclusions align with site requirements.
- Maintain an up-to-date and clean set of construction drawings and specifications throughout the project lifecycle.
- Keep an organized site binder containing all subcontractor and vendor agreements for reference, including daily supervisor logs.
- Lead daily coordination meetings with subcontractors when necessary to ensure alignment on project activities.
- Conduct daily safety talks and ensure that all site activities comply with applicable health and safety standards.
- Coordinate and schedule subcontractor activities to maintain adherence to the project baseline schedule.
- Monitor the quality of work performed on-site to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Manage and verify the delivery and pickup of materials and machinery, ensuring correct quantities are onsite before work begins each day.
- Communicate daily with the Project Coordinator and Project Manager to update site logs, review schedules, report progress, and address any issues, including underperformance by subcontractors or vendors.
- Facilitate on-site issue resolution in collaboration with subcontractors.
- Participate in project closeout meetings with the Project Manager to review and debrief the project.
- Issue site POs and work authorizations to subcontractors and vendors, and ensure copies are submitted to the Project Coordinator and Project Manager for processing and costing.
- Monitor and track material deliveries and haulage; submit all packing slips to the Project Manager for recordkeeping and billing.
- Coordinate site demobilization activities upon project completion.
- Track and coordinate the resolution of deficiencies with subcontractors and vendors until all items are closed.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS / ABILITIES
Experience / Education
- Post-secondary education in Construction Management or Project Management.
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as onsite construction supervisor or foreman (Heavy civil construction, mechanical, electrical, concrete, water / wastewater).
Skills & Abilities
- Previous work experience troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving onsite issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to read construction blueprints, schematics, field drawings and plans and specifications.
- Proficient in use of MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) and Google G suite.
- Experience using GPS for construction site layout.
- In-depth knowledge of and application of health and safety principles/ procedures/legislation per Ministry of Labour and Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Valid G driver’s license.
- Proficient understanding of the Ontario building code.
- Understanding of constructability and construction project life span.
- Highly organized with ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.
