Your Responsibilities: workers assist residents to live successfully in a community home setting while implementing the philosophy and values of NewLife. This includes:
- Providing individuals with the opportunity to make meaningful choices
- Recognizing each individual’s contributions and promoting participation
- Promoting health and wellness while ensuring that individuals are safe
- Connecting individuals with family, friends, community, and resources both within and outside the agency
Key components in providing daily quality-of-life care and support include assisting individuals as they gain knowledge and develop functional skills that they can use to enhance their independence and participate in community. Your role is to provide high quality active care and fully engaged active support as part of a dynamic team and to ensure that Individuals are provided opportunities and options which reflect cultural and ethnic sensitivity in the community.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience working with autism
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Critical thinking and crisis intervention skills
- Experience/familiarity with Trauma Informed Care Approaches
- Knowledge of age-appropriate activities
- Ability to provide a calm and positive role model to children
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and ensure everyone's dignity
- Ability to work cooperatively as a member of the team
- Ability to prevent and resolve conflicts
- Demonstrates initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness
- Strong work ethics and positive attitude
- Detailed Record keeping
- Discretion with confidentiality
Job Requirements:
- Must have current Certification of First Aid and CPR, NVCI, Suicide Awareness
- Understand and agree that condition of employment requires driving residents with travel reimbursement (Please note this is Not Optional as these positions require drivers)
- Clear Criminal Record check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (Current June 2025)
- A Valid Driver's License with clean Abstract & Vehicle with proof of insurance
- Experience with autism behavior
- Professional Reference by supervisor at current/last employer mandatory
Education:
Completed or working towards one of the following:
Child and Youth Worker, Developmental Service Worker, Social Service Worker, Police Foundations, Law and Security, Community Justice Worker, Youth Outreach Worker, Addictions Worker, Addictions Councilor, Residential treatment, Mental Health, Corrections, Masters of Social Work, Child youth councilor, Personal support Worker, Children Services, Autism Behavioral Science, Bachelor of Social Work, Educational Assistant, Behavioral Specialist, Recreation and Leisure, Special Needs Support, Early Childhood Educator, Child Therapist, Child Welfare Worker, Outreach Worker, Psychology
