Part-time Support Worker
The Support Worker will provide assistance to women who are experiencing any form of physical, emotional, sexual, financial, or spiritual abuse. In addition to supporting the residents of our own facility, the Support Worker will answer crisis calls from women who are seeking information and advice, as well as maintain a database of electronic client records. The Support Worker will also be required to assist with household operations (light housework and meal preparation), and be able to handle a multitude of situations as they occur. The Support Worker must have effective communication skills, a willingness to help others, a friendly disposition, and compassion, all while working with clients, other internal support positions, and local service organizations.
Qualifications and Credentials:
- High School diploma or GED diploma of High School equivalency
- Post-secondary education in human sciences (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is considered an asset
- Current Food Handlers Certificate is considered an asset
- Demonstrated skills in interpersonal relationships
- Ability to maintain a cohesive and harmonious environment among residents and staff
Applicants must provide or obtain valid Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks, Social Development check, as well as current Emergency First Aid/CPR Certification (training will be provided if the chosen candidate does not have a current certificate).
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Administration of daily office responsibilities such as answering the telephone, maintaining electronic client records, documentation of crisis calls, and log book updates
- Administration of other household operations and procedures related to safety, supplies, maintenance and cleanliness
- Performing light housekeeping duties
- Monitoring and upholding household rules and criteria
- Ability to work shift work (including overnights)
- Availability to work on-call hours
- Assisting with short-term childcare
Part-time wage: $19.00 per hour
Rotation: 4 to 12 hour shifts as required (including days, evenings/overnight, weekends, and holidays). Not a set weekly schedule.
