Physician Assistant
West Carleton Family Health Team is located in the Village of Carp within the City of Ottawa. The West Carleton Medical Centre is a large multidisciplinary clinic with over 65 staff members. We believe in utilizing our staff to the full extent of the scope and currently have multiple Physician Assistants on our team. We are presently recruiting a Physician Assistant for a Full Time position. The hours may be adjusted based on the candidates preference, so if you would prefer to work less than 37.5 hours per week please do not hesitate to apply.
Job Description
- Effectively identifies, evaluates, and addresses disease prevention and health promotion issues of the population in the practice while administering quality patient care.
- Works in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the medical staff, which allows for consultation, collaboration, or referral.
- Under physician supervision, provides for the diagnosis and treatment of acute, chronic, and long-term healthcare issues.
- Educates patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.
- Maintains legible, accurate, and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with applicable standards, as obtains physician authorizations/signatures as required.
- Facilitates evaluation of records by physician(s), peers, and Quality and Standards according to protocols, and receives and implements constructive directives.
- Supports inbox management across the team.
- Analyzes new knowledge gained from conferences, workshops, professional literature, or "hands-on training" and assimilates this knowledge into clinical practice, and shares with colleagues as appropriate.
- Consults with physicians and other clinical staff where situations arise beyond their scope of practice.
- Participates in care coordination meetings and case coordination meetings, as required.
- Participates in the maintenance of a healthy and safe work environment in accordance with the facility's safety programs.
- Participates in performance measurement and utilization management.
- Collaborates in the overall management of the clinic by participating in team meetings, committees, and work groups as required.
- Tracking and trending outcome data in collaboration with clinical and management staff.
- Promotes communication to develop a collaborative multi-disciplinary care team.
- Acts as mentor/coach/teacher for more junior staff.
- Participates in the development and implementation of medical directives.
- Preference will be given to PAs with experience in procedures including, but not limited to, lumps and bumps, biopsies, laceration repair, joint injections, casting. If we are unable to recruit a PA with experience in procedures we are willing to train.
Education/Qualifications
- Completion of an Accredited PA Program or equivalent
- Certified or eligible to be certified through the PACC (Physician Assistant’s Certification Council); OR certified through NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) for American or Canadian educated/trained PA’s.
- Registered or eligible for registration through the CPSO.
- Effective team member and communicator who motivates and inspires others to deliver the optimal quality of care to patients.
- Ability to perform in stressful, critical/emergency situations, flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in prioritizing, critical thinking and decision-making.
- Demonstrated clinical practice, technical and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated organizational, communication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency working with microcomputer applications in a Windows environment, relevant to electronic health records.

Rate of Pay:
Starting at $42.00/hour + 15% in lieu of benefits.

Executive Director of West Carleton Family Health Team
Hours of Work:
37.5 hrs/wk, 7.5hrs/day – Shifts may vary, but typically are scheduled during normal, non urgent care, clinic hours.
