THE OPPORTUNITY

This role is part of a dynamic team responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll for all employees and administrating group benefit programs that the Company offers. The primary responsibilities for this role include maintaining employee records, processing wages and benefits, and reconciling related expenses and accruals from employee onboarding to separation. The Administrator is also responsible for assessing current procedures and improving efficiencies in operational processes.

This role will report directly to Human Resources is required to treat all Human Resources, payroll and benefit information with the strictest confidentiality.

WHAT YOU BRING TO WATT

  • 3-5 years Payroll and Benefits work experience is required. PayWorks and Canada Life platforms would be considered an asset.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional certificate from the National Payroll Institute is required.
  • Advanced knowledge in processing bi-weekly payroll using online payroll software.
  • Well-versed in payroll legislation and provincial employment standards with strong capabilities to conduct research and analysis.
  • Ability to work with numbers quickly and accurately.
  • Solid experience in benefits enrolment, administration, and processing.
  • Experience administering Health and Wellness Spending accounts.
  • Knowledge of WSA and taxable benefits details.
  • Effective multi-tasker and systematic in solving problems and implementing solutions.
  • People-oriented; approachable; results-driven.
  • Experience in Excel and is a fast learner of payroll and accounting software.
  • Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous experience in Ajera and/or BambooHR is considered an asset.
  • Experience in workers’ compensation reporting – quarterly and annually.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Review employee timecards on a weekly basis and accuracy. Assist employees and managers with timecard adjustments.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for all employees using the financial and payroll systems.
  • Set up appropriate pay elements such as RSP contributions and other benefits for all new hires.
  • Enroll and update benefit coverages as necessary.
  • Audit and update systems as required to ensure accurate vacation, sick, and bank time.
  • Reconcile payroll and benefit invoices including Earnings, Deductions, Group Insurance, Health Spending, RRSP, allowance, etc.
  • Support with benefits review, analysis, and implementation.
  • Prepare monthly and year-end reports for accrued pays and benefits.
  • Generate accurate T4 documents within the required timelines.
  • Respond to payroll and benefit related inquiries from staff and external authority in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain accuracy and completeness of all payroll and benefit related records.
  • Ensure filing system and employee records pertaining to payroll and benefits are kept current.
  • Participate in the continuous review and improvement of payroll processes and procedures.
  • Address benefit insurance issues as they arise and act as liaison between the Company and insurance providers.
  • Process final payment and termination of employees in compliance with legislative and common law requirements.
  • Issue system-generated ROEs.
  • Quarterly and year-end payroll reporting for all workers compensation insurance (WCB, WorkSafe, WSIB, etc.).
  • Provide assistance to internal and external auditors.
  • Other duties as required.
