We’re Hiring! Part-Time Advocate / Front Desk Staff
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness and marginalization? Advocate Connections is seeking a dedicated Advocate / Front Desk Staff Member to join our team.
This is more than a front desk role, you’ll be the first point of contact for unhoused community members seeking help, while also stepping into an advocacy role to support individuals in navigating complex systems and breaking down barriers.

Summary of Roles & Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for community members seeking support, creating a welcoming, safe, and respectful environment
- Provide front desk support: answer phones, manage schedules, greet visitors, and maintain records with professionalism and discretion
- Step into an advocacy role by assisting individuals experiencing homelessness and marginalization in navigating housing, social services, mental health supports, and government systems
- Build and maintain supportive relationships with community members while upholding compassion, respect, and empowerment
- Respond calmly and effectively to crises, including de-escalating situations and connecting individuals with appropriate resources
- Collaborate with the Advocate Connections team of volunteers and board members to ensure smooth daily operations and strong community support
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Human, Community, and/or Social Services (e.g. SSW, CYC, DSW) is an asset but not required
- Experience in advocacy, front-line support, or administrative/front desk roles preferred
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and active listening when working with vulnerable populations
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and professional boundaries
- Adaptability and resilience when supporting individuals in high-stress or crisis situations
- A team player who is also capable of working independently
- Lived experience, multilingualism, and/or knowledge of housing, poverty, and social service systems are considered strong assets
Requirements
- Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain)
- Standard First Aid & CPR, Level C with AED training is an asset
- Ability to meet the emotional and organizational demands of a fast-paced advocacy environment

Part-Time: Monday–Friday, 9 AM–3 PM
Wage: $20/hour
