Manager of Read/Write & Math Intervention
Foothills Academy Society is a Registered Charity in Calgary, Alberta which began in 1979. We are leaders in the field of Learning Disabilities and ADHD, and we offer both a grade 3-12 School, as well as extensive Community Services to support young people and their families. We are a small community with a big heart, and we strive to ensure that our services are financially accessible. Our Community Services consists of five departments which serve the LD and/or ADHD community year-round, whether or not the young person attends our School. The Read/Write & Math Intervention department in Community Services offers specialized remedial intervention in literacy and math that is delivered one-to-one, or in small groups. In addition to offering these services to the public, this department also provides specialized intervention for students in our School as a part of our MTSS model.
Qualifications
● A graduate degree in Education, or a related field.
● A proven ability to lead a staff team; strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
● The ability to develop complex schedules and respond to changing factors in a fast-paced setting.
● A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with families seeking supports.
● Experience with developing and managing a large budget.
● A strong understanding of assessment and research methods, as well as data analysis.
● Previous experience in teaching children and youth, particularly those with Learning Disabilities and/or ADHD and delivering instructional remediation programs (specifically those based on Orton-Gillingham theory).
Job Overview
The Manager of our Read/Write & Math Intervention department is responsible for supervising a team of 30-40 specially trained Instructors to deliver high-quality remedial instruction. The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the department, including responding to concerns of parents/clients and staff members, and reports to the Executive co-Directors on a regular basis. This department runs year-round, with its busiest times in summer and spring break.
The Manager of the Read/Write & Math Intervention department works collaboratively with the other leaders in the agency to coordinate efforts and optimize our multi-disciplinary approach in ways that best meet the needs of the families we serve. This role reports directly to the Executive co-Directors.
General Duties
● To promote the Read/Write & Math Intervention programs in collaboration with our communications and marketing department, and by answering questions posed by potential clients
● To coordinate clients with appropriate staff members for assessment and programming and set up client contracts
● To communicate proactively with families to ensure their satisfaction and support their understanding of their child’s trajectory
● To supervise and mentor Instructors to engage in the most effective teaching strategies for optimize client learning
● To interview, hire, schedule, and manage instructional staff
● To conduct and document annual reviews of Instructors
● To ensure the Read/Write & Math Intervention staff members obtain on-going professional development, and to ensure that instructional materials are up-to-date.
● Planning and communicating program registration dates, identifying space for program delivery (particularly in summer) and maintaining clear communication with all parties in the agency because the departmentoperates year around
● To remain up-to-date on relevant research, and to regularly investigate potential new instructional programs, evaluation tools, and program delivery models
● To collect feedback from clients to ensure the quality of services, and identify opportunities for program evolution
● To establish procedures and/or research partnerships, in order to analyze client pre-and post-data
● To work collaboratively with the Community Services Intake Coordinator and oversee our client registration management and parent portal systems.
● To be responsible for collaborating with the Director of Business Management to develop and manage the department budget, and all related administrative tasks
● To collaborate with the Executive co-Directors in order to envision, resource, and put plans in place to support the evolution of the department over time
Employment Details
· This a full-time salaried role with year-round responsibilities.
· Compensation includes a full benefits package, and salary commensurate with the successful candidate’s level of expertise and relevant experience.
