About the Position
The Lifestyles & Memory Care Coordinator enriches the lives of residents everyday by assisting in the development and coordination of meaningful programs and services to meet their social, physical, intellectual, emotional, vocational and spiritual needs. The successful candidate will play a large role in coordinating the Metta Memory program, in accordance with the Lifestyles Manager, by providing a unique person-centered approach to memory care placing emphasis on relationships, supporting the interactions with residents and their families and establishing strong social connection to develop trust and familiarity.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of programs, ensuring that the social, physical, intellectual, emotional, vocational and spiritual needs of residents are met.
- Works closely with the Lifestyles Manager, Manager of Care and other department managers to execute the Metta Memory program.
- Assists in preparation of communication tools (newsletters, posters, notices, calendars, etc.) designed to provide residents, seniors located in the community and volunteers with information regarding current and future activities and special events.
- Responds to resident or family member concerns in a timely manner and ensures appropriate action is taken within decision-making authority and/or brings to the attention of the General Manager.
- Creates a safe, pleasant, creative and non-threatening recreational environment.
- Utilizes community resources to assist in providing recreation opportunities where appropriate.
- Ensures a high level of resident engagement.
- Assesses resident’s condition throughout the day by observing their grooming, change in habits/routines, change in participation patterns, mood and more.
- Helps plan evening and weekend programs/activities as required.
- Effectively communicates and interacts with residents, family members, visitors and volunteers in a courteous and professional manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years’ of related experience ideally in a retirement, long term care or health care environment.
- Previous experience working with individuals with Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
- Graduate of a post-secondary education program relating to recreation, gerontology, social work or equivalent related experience.
- Dementia care certificate, GPA certificate, or equivalent an asset
- Current First Aid/CPR Certificate an asset.
- Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills (including the ability to interact with residents, family members, community professionals and various health care agencies).
- Ability to creatively plan, organize, and direct the delivery of diverse social services and volunteer programs.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrates an appreciation for and understanding of the background and needs of individual residents.
- Must be available for flexible hours (including weekends and evenings as required).
