Job Description
The County is looking for a full-time permanent Lead Hand, Transfer Stations for our Municipal Utilities Department. Reporting to the Supervisor, Solid Waste, the Lead Hand, Transfer Stations is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the county transfer stations and recycling depots, including supervision of transfer station employees, site maintenance, coordination of waste and recycling products removal. They also respond to customer issues regarding solid waste and assist with curbside garbage collection and other solid waste related programs.
Job Duties and Tasks:
Schedule staff at the remote manned transfer stations, arrange for or cover shifts for vacation or sick days as required.
Supervise transfer station staff in daily operations, provide guidance, mentoring, planning, training, and daily support to employees.
Participate in performance evaluations, training, employee development, and assist in recruitment and hiring.
Monitoring and site maintenance of remote unmanned transfer stations, including but not limited to groundskeeping, litter and garbage removal, bin inspections, coordination and scheduling of bin pickups and repairs, removal of fugitive materials, and keeping the sites in a generally clean, tidy, and organized condition.
Ensure correct operation of equipment and that maintenance of equipment, roads, infrastructure, groundskeeping, are completed in a timely manner.
Qualifications
A valid Class 5 driver's license.Clean criminal records check and driver's abstract.
Computer skills (MS Office software).
Previous landfill, transfer station, or recycling experience is an asset.
The ability to interact with waste haulers, the public, and co-workers effectively and courteously.
Supervisory experience.
Able to undertake lifting, sweeping, cleaning, and shoveling tasks as required.
Valid or expired Landfill Operator certification is considered an asset.
Additional Information
This position works Monday to Friday for 40 hours per week.
The County of Grande Prairie provides a competitive compensation package, including benefits, pension and vacation.
Pay rate: $38.51 to $45.31 Hourly
