Junior Litigation Clerk

Our boutique law firm in downtown Kitchener, practicing exclusively in personal injury, is looking for a full-time Junior (Tort) Litigation Clerk to join our growing team. If you have experience in plaintiff personal injury law, insurance defence or have two years experience in civil litigation and are interested in specializing in personal injury, please apply.

Business Hours: 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.
Work Hours: 37.5 hours, start and end times to be determined before start date.

Remuneration: $19.00 - $24.00 per hour / commensurate with experience.
Who You Are
- Adaptable and quick to identify issues needs and accommodate last minute requests
- Capable of proactively anticipating next stage of the claim’s process
- Have exceptional time management and pride yourself on exemplary organizational skills including but not limited to management of email, digital files, and processes
- Highly knowledgeable and efficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Word, Excel and Outlook
- A self-starter and demonstrate a history of holding yourself accountable
How You’ll Make a Difference
- performing administrative law clerk office duties on personal injury client files, taking instruction from firm lawyers and supervising senior clerk
- drafting various pleadings and court filings, including in preparation for pre-trial and trial
- drafting various briefs including for settlement conferences and mediations
- drafting affidavits of documents
- communication with clients, lawyers, court staff and others in a professional manner, including by telephone, in writing and in person
- maintaining calendars and scheduling
- maintaining limitations lists and file tracking / organization
- photocopying, organizing and filing
Skills required
- strong writing skills, able to effectively communicate in writing for the needs of the audience
- reading comprehension of legal documents, file material, legislation, etc. and written instructions from lawyers
- research skills, able to identify relevant caselaw and legislation
- listening skills, full attention to verbal instructions, asking questions as appropriate
- critical thinking, using logic and reasoning
- time management of own time and time of others
- adaptation, thinking quickly to respond to unexpected challenges, applying newly learned information to a circumstance

- Soluno or other legal accounting software: experience an asset.

Education / Experience:
- Law Clerk Program (College Level); and/or University Degree and/or Legal Assistant Program (College Level)
- Two to Five (2-5) years experience in the legal field, with preference to plaintiff’s side
