Reporting to the Practice Manager of the Dental and Animal Clinical Services department in the School of Health and Life Science, the position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our lab/clinic spaces. The position will also deliver technical lessons in the lab environment independently, under the guidance of instructors, using existing rubric and assessments tools provide by instructors, to evaluate students.
Key Responsibilities:
Lab/Clinic:
- Maintain and calibrate lab/clinic equipment
- Ensure lab/clinic safety
- Manufacturing specialized items when required
- Ensure the work area is in safe and clean condition
- Liaison with other programs when required
- Maintain consumables and inventory of equipment
- Assist with maintaining Standard Operating Procedures and safety manuals when required
Instructional Support:
- Independently deliver in lab/clinic technical activities/lessons
- Evaluate students based on existing rubrics and assessment tools, provided by instructors, and provide feedback
- Independent supervision of students
- Demonstrate lab/clinic equipment, when required
- Support educational technologists in the preparation, setup, and dismantling lab/clinic exercises when required
- Assist or perform lab/clinic demonstrations of equipment under the supervision of instructional support
- Ensure knowledge of related equipment including use and application
- Assist instructional staff in the safe and correct use of equipment
- Provide feedback to instructors regarding lab/clinic exercises
Student Support:
- Provide tutorial/remedial work for students
- Assist students in the development and execution of technical projects in cooperation with other staff members
- Ensure students are working in safe conditions and safely with equipment.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Initiative and ability to work independently
- Knowledge of computers and use of Microsoft suite of programs
- Ability to lift 20-45lbs unassisted
- Ability to stand and walk for 7.25 hours
- Ability to physically perform standard dental and intraoral work
- Ability to work flexible hours and assignments
- A solid working knowledge of clinical settings, safety standards, and equipment operations and maintenance in the dental.
Qualifications:
- Related certificate, diploma or degree
- Some positions may require related trade certification or registration with professional association
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: $59,603.44-79,497.34 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Instructional Assistant II).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
