The Dehcho Divisional Education Council invites applications for the position of

Indigenous Language Teacher (1 year term)

Starting Date: August 27, 2025

Wrigley is one of the most beautiful communities in the Northwest Territories. Look out the school windows at the Mackenzie River and the Mackenzie mountains - the boundary between the Yukon and the Northwest Territories. Wrigley is accessible by ice bridge access across the Mackenzie River in winter, and by gravel road/ferry in summer. It is about 200 km north of Fort Simpson on the Mackenzie Highway - currently under development as the major artery to the Beaufort Delta.

It is a “Designated Authority” community and the Pedzah Ki First Nation Band Office is in the school building complex.

The school staff includes a teaching principal, support assistants, a language teacher, a full time elementary teacher and a PST/high school teacher.

Dehcho Divisional Education Council invites applications from teachers who are dedicated to teaching and have experience and/or interest in the cultural, linguistic and traditional heritage of the Dene. The teacher will offer a holistic, culturally relevant program that supports the language and cultural heritage of the students and addresses the needs of all students who may have learning challenges in multi-grade classes.



Applicant Criteria:

  • Must hold or be eligible for a Northwest Territories Professional Teaching Certificate.
  • Proficiency in speaking Dene Zhatie language is required.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to effectively engage with students and their parents in multi-grade environments.
  • Direct experience with the Northwest Territories curricula is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the "Our Languages Curriculum" is an asset.
  • Experience in promoting and organizing culturally appropriate activities is highly desirable.
  • The ability to teach additional courses from JK-12 would be considered an asset.
