Following the Mission Statement of the Beaverhouse First Nation Band Office, we are seeking a dedicated and energetic individual who will work with a dynamic team to perform the following duties:

Position Overview:

The Indigenous Community Support Worker will provide culturally sensitive support and advocacy to individuals and families affected by family violence within the Indigenous community. This role requires someone who is passionate about supporting the healing process, advocating for family safety, and fostering positive change through education and support services.

Key Responsibilities:

· Provide individual and family-centered support, crisis intervention, and advocacy services to Indigenous families experiencing family violence.

· Build trust and rapport within the community, working closely with Elders, members and service providers to identify and address the unique needs of families impacted by violence.

· Connect individuals and families with appropriate resources, such as housing, legal services, mental health support, and domestic violence shelters.

· Maintain accurate and confidential case notes, records, and reports as required by the organization and funding bodies.

· Assist families in accessing services while incorporating Indigenous cultural practices and teachings. Facilitate healing and wellness strategies grounded in the community's traditions and values.

· Provide workshops, presentations, group sessions, and community outreach initiatives to raise awareness about family violence, prevention strategies, available resources, and services within the community.

· Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

· Degree or diploma in Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Community Services, or related field

· Minimum 1-2 years of experience working in community support roles, preferably within Indigenous communities or with Indigenous families

· Effective oral and written communication skills

Assets:

· Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, values, and traditions with the ability to work in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner

· Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

· Experience with case management and community-based support services

· Strong problem-solving skills and a non-judgmental approach to working with families in crisis

· Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

· Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed

· Valid First Aid/CPR
