Job Title: Indigenous Bail Worker – Repost

Position:
This is a full-time position that provides supervision and support to low-risk accused persons who do not have the finances or social ties to be released into the community on bail pending trial.
Requirements:
- Social work, criminology degree, or equivalent university degree or college diploma
- Knowledge of the Gladue principles
- Proven ability to work with individuals from the Indigenous community
- Experience in crisis intervention
- Ability to articulate criminal and social justice issues
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated individual with strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Project a positive, friendly, and professional attitude
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Constant ability to learn and to respond constructively to change and stressful situations
- Excellent computer skills
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Justice Team Leader, the duties and responsibilities of the Indigenous Bail Worker include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Interviewing the client at the courthouse to determine program eligibility
- Provide verified, neutral, and accurate information about an accused person (employment, educational, residence, health, addiction issues, etc.)
- Provide supervision, support, and referral services for their clients
- Contacting police when the client is failing to report or breaching their bail conditions
- Provide bail supervision in designated areas in communities
- Attend court as a representative of the WIFN Indigenous Bail Program
- Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with court officials, justice stakeholders, and Indigenous communities and organizations
- Review documents, gather information, and assess eligibility for bail release into the program
- Interview prospective candidates for bail at the courthouse
- Obtain relevant information from police, defense lawyers, and the Crown's office
- Complete verification process and communicate outcome to appropriate stakeholders
- Monitor clients' bail conditions according to program standards
- Complete risk-need assessments and intervention plans
- Provide referrals to culturally appropriate services to address client needs
- Maintain case recording of all contacts made with the clients and other agencies on their behalf
- Liaise with police, court officials, and Indigenous service providers to support bail clients
- Travel to the surrounding First Nation communities to meet with Indigenous clients as required
- Provide crisis intervention and enhanced mental health support to bail clients as required
- Ensure adherence to the Ministry's contract, policies, and procedures
- Prepare and complete weekly/monthly statistical reports
- Work cooperatively with other Bail workers in the team
- Work different shifts, including days. Evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays as required
