Position Title: Controller

Location: Richmond (in-person position)

Position Type: Permanent, Full Time

Annual Salary: $120,000 – $140,000 with bonus potential

About Us:

Our client is a privately held group of companies based in the Lower Mainland, recognized for their expertise in electrical contracting across both commercial and industrial sectors. This organization includes one of the largest electrical contractors in British Columbia—regularly awarded for excellence in construction—and two specialized industrial firms with decades of experience in sectors such as forestry, mining, and petrochemicals. Together, these companies form a cohesive group that offers clients a depth of knowledge, technical capability, and executional strength that is rarely available from a single source.

Position:

We are currently recruiting an experienced Controller on behalf of our client. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing financial operations, reporting, and internal controls across a diverse group of entities within the organization. The Controller will work closely with senior leadership to provide strategic financial oversight and ensure the group’s accounting practices meet the highest standards of compliance and accuracy.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, hands-on finance leader with a strong background in multi-entity accounting, financial reporting, and team development, capable of navigating both complexity and growth.

Job Description:

  • Oversee accounting functions across multiple companies, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes for the group, ensuring timely and accurate reporting in compliance with GAAP.
  • Prepare internal and external financial statements and management reports for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Develop and monitor internal controls to ensure integrity of financial reporting and safeguard company assets.
  • Collaborate with operational managers to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.

Candidate Requirements:

  • CPA designation (or equivalent) required.
  • 5 – 7 years of post-CPA designation or 7 – 10 years of experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting standards, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Strong technical knowledge of ASPE and IFRS.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks Enterprise, or similar ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary
  • Extended health and dental benefits
  • Paid vacation
  • Professional development support
