Description


Reporting to the Engagement Manager, the Engagement Coordinator is a key member of the NexGen engagement team, with a focus on leading administrative processes and supporting engagement initiatives with Local Priority Area Indigenous Nations and communities. The successful candidate will be self-motivated with strong organizational and time-management abilities, detail-oriented, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Key Responsibilities


(including but not limited to):
  • Provide administrative support for the engagement and community team.
  • Support the planning, execution, and documentation of all engagement activities, including coordinating meetings and logistics for engagement and community events, as well as attend and represent NexGen at engagement events.
  • Compile and develop reporting information following engagement and community events.
  • Record and manage engagement records (e.g., communications, meeting minutes), including the management of the engagement record database.
  • Track team budgets and costs; including processing of invoices and compilation of monthly accrual amounts.
  • Develop and maintain respectful and mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous representatives and community members.
  • Collaborate with all NexGen departments to ensure ongoing dialogue on the importance of Indigenous relations and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Rook I Project team to ensure understanding and integration of Indigenous and community commitments across all departments and workstreams.
  • Remain up to date on key regulatory requirements in relation to the provincial and federal regulatory frameworks.
  • Other duties assigned.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


  • Recognized certificate, diploma, or degree in a related discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in communications or administration. Indigenous relations, environmental management, natural resource development, or project development experience is considered an asset.
  • Advanced computer and word processing skills and experience with related software (e.g., Word, Excel, SharePoint). Experience with managing databases is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and detail-oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and coordinate in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively to ensure respectful practices and meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge of the history and present-day context of Indigenous governments, organizations and peoples in Canada.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous guidance such as the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of regulatory process, requirements and context for resource development projects is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license.
