Position Purpose:
The overall duty of this position is to perform third party ad hoc electrical shop/vendor inspections of electrical equipment/materials, document review and report preparation.

Due to the nature of this position there will be on-call and overtime requirements as well as some travel. This position is under an Independent Contractor relationship.

We are currently collecting resumes to staff future positions in and around the Lower Mainland, BC.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepares and completes all necessary paperwork required in compliance with client, industry and company standards and policies.
  • Operates digital camera and records findings within Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to operate portable electronic equipment/computers.
  • Ability to work remotely.
  • Receives work instructions electronically and submits final reports to Inspection Coordinators remotely.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with inspection standards and zero non-conformance reports.
  • Strong commitment to quality inspection and reporting.
  • Actively promotes and proactively models the company’s focus on safety when interacting with all current and future employees and clients.
  • Represents Applus Velosi with outside groups, regulatory bodies, associations, and clients.
  • Adhering to organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to Applus Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreements.
  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Firmly adheres to the values and ethics of Applus. Exhibits honesty, discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
  • Strong technical knowledge IEEE, CSA and IEC standards.
  • Fundamental understanding of industry codes, regulations and practices.
  • Ability to read technical documents and procedures and apply them in the field.
  • Excellent report writing and review skills.
  • Excellent customer service focus, ability to quickly build strong working relationships with business partners and colleagues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills matched with the ability to negotiate and build relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize, solve problems, and consistently meet deadlines.

Education and Work Experience:
Required Qualifications
  • Canadian Electrical Certificate (Journeyman, Master, or Red Seal Electrician).
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Minimum 7 years experience in electrical fabrication or quality inspection.
  • Demonstrated experience in electrical instrumentation and third-party inspections.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years in fabrication quality surveillance.
  • 5+ years in freelance electrical inspection services.
  • Experience with oil & gas industry standards.
  • Professional development in IEEE, CSA, or IEC standards.

Equivalent Experience Considered

Working Conditions:
  • Required to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry/arid conditions in temperature extremes and inclement weather.
  • Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials in various working environments.
  • Commonly exposed to walking on slippery or uneven surfaces.
  • Occasionally required to work in noisy/loud working environments especially on project sites.
  • Work outside of normal business hours will be occasionally required.
  • Overtime required during the week and weekend with work volume.
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedules and respond to requests without advance warning or notification.
  • Occasional to frequent travel may be required within Canada.
  • Working conditions will vary between project locations.
