RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop programs and schedules, including providing creative input and ideas for programs and volunteer recruitment.
- Participate in budget preparation and is accountable for maintaining departmental budgets, orders and maintain department supplies.
- Gather information on available grants and community resource.
- Complete timely, individualized, and up to date resident assessments and resident profiles at admission.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in communicating with residents, planning individualized programs, and grouping residents of similar backgrounds and interests.
- Select, supervise, monitors, and motivates recreation staff, while evaluating performance to assure a high level of priority and the best use of capabilities.
- Report any issues with staff and refers to administration if necessary.
- Plans in-services and encourages staff participation in in-service education programs.
- Communicates the activities of the department to residents, staff, families, and the community to encourage participation in programs.
- Coordinates the volunteer program for the facility, including recruiting, orientating, directing, and evaluating volunteers and volunteer activities. Supervise his/her volunteer coordinator in their role. (as applicable)
- Facilitates, as assigned, Residents’ Council activities in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Other duties as assigned
- Post-secondary diploma or Degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university.
- Experience in long term care in developing/ leading programs for residents with varied physical and cognitive ability.
- Experience in PCC and Activity pro would be considered as an asset.
- Understanding and promoting the Residents Bill of Rights.
- Knowledge of community resources within the service area and able to relate to them in a professional manner.
- Commitment to ongoing education to meet resident’s needs and legislative requirements.
- Must have strong computer skills and knowledge with technology in programming for virtual or remote communications such as Zoom, Skype, Facetime, using different devices.
- Flexibility to participate in the manager on-call rotation schedule. More information will be provided during the interview process.
- A negative vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of hire date.
- Completion of a 2 Step TB Skin test within the last 12 months.
