Alberta Precision Labs (APL) has an exciting opportunity to fill the role of Director of Genetics & Genomics and Molecular Pathology. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual who will be accountable for making decisions and providing leadership in delivery and access to clinical diagnostic testing, as well as providing direct support and counsel on all aspects of service operations in Genetics & Genomics and Molecular Pathology. You will provide operational direction over the Genetics & Genomics and Molecular Pathology laboratories in support of the vision, mission and strategic business plan of APL, while working with medical dyad partners and operational teams to ensure standardized and integrated implementation of best practices, policies and procedures, testing platforms, and test menus between sites. You will also provide direction to the site managers and supervisors, participate in continual improvement initiatives and monitor operational outcomes. In addition, you will play a key role in team building, staff engagement, and effective change management. Strategic planning and change management will be instrumental in this role as the programs continue to evolve with new technologies and initiatives.
Description:
Reporting to the COO, the Director, Genetics & Genomics/Molecular Pathology will work collaboratively within the APL matrix structure to ensure services are integrated and focused on improving patient care. The Director will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders including Health Agencies, Academic Institutions and leaders at APL. APL works within a dyad model of physician and administrative co-leads to advance accessible and quality patient focused, provincially integrated services in a sustainable manner. The Director will work with their dyad partners, the Provincial Medical Director Genetics & Genomics and Provincial Medical Director Molecular Pathology to provide leadership for the delivery of Genetics & Genomics/Molecular Pathology laboratory services and oversee all related programs and services. The Genetics & Genomics/Molecular Pathology Laboratories are Centers of Excellence; the Director will be responsible for optimizing workflow and standardizing best practices, policies and procedures across the province. The Director supports the vision, mission and strategic business plan of APL including strategic revenue growth in the area of molecular technologies. Areas of responsibility include management of operating and capital budgets, assessing capacity for new instruments, equipment, and testing methodologies. The Director provides direction to the managers and supervisors, participates in continual improvement initiatives, monitors operational outcomes and takes appropriate action as required. In addition, the Director plays a role in team building, staff engagement, and effective change management. The position will be provincial in scope and some travel between Edmonton and Calgary sites will be necessary.

Undergraduate degree or diploma in a health sciences or related field. A minimum of five years of progressive, diverse healthcare leadership experience in a health care organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. A demonstrated clear pattern of progressive professional and personal development. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate degree in health care management, business administration or related field. Leadership training courses/sessions. Relevant clinical training (i.e., MLT, CLXT). Relevant certification (i.e. PROSCI, Project Management Professional (PMP), Healthcare Project Management, Certified professional in Health Information Management Systems, Research Project Management, etc.).
