Job Description:


This Director role is a key leadership position within the Finance team supporting Sun Life’s Investment Solutions business unit. It combines accountability for end-to-end financial reporting and financial analysis for Sun Life Global Investments Asset Management Inc. (SLGI) subsidiary and legal entity reporting and assets under management (AUM) and sales reporting, including mutual funds, segregated funds, annuities, and guaranteed investments.

This role is ideal for a seasoned financial professional with a strong accounting and reporting background, who also brings a strategic mindset and business acumen to drive insights, performance, and continuous improvement. The Director leads a team of finance professionals and works closely with senior business leaders, auditors, regulators, and cross-functional partners.


What will you do?

Financial & Regulatory Reporting

  • Lead the accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and regulatory filings for SLGI Asset Management Inc.

  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and internal accounting policies, including full ownership of general ledger oversight, disclosures, notes, and supporting schedules.

  • Oversee quarterly and annual Board reporting for SLGI Asset Management and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure data integrity and transparency.

  • Manage internal and external audit relationships and coordinate responses, supporting evidence, walkthroughs, and resolution of findings.

  • Maintain a strong internal control environment and lead the implementation of best practices in financial governance, risk mitigation, and audit readiness.

  • Liaise with internal compliance and legal teams to ensure alignment with evolving regulatory requirements.

  • Support capital and liquidity planning, intercompany transactions, and tax reporting requirements.

  • Act as Finance SME on key projects, including regulatory changes, product launches, and strategic initiatives as required.

Financial Analysis

  • Deliver high-quality financial analysis as required to support business planning, forecasting, and performance measurement.

  • Analyze business performance across AUM growth, sales, redemptions, expenses, and profitability metrics.

  • Working with the business, develop multi-year sales targets aligned with strategic levers and distribution strategies.

  • Design and enhance strategic metric reporting (client, financial, market share, etc.) to support business growth.

  • Support the financial planning processes (monthly forecasts, annual plans, and long-term business plans) for SLGI.

Team Leadership & Business Partnership

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of financial professionals with a strong culture of accountability, collaboration, and learning.

  • Partner across the enterprise with Canadian Finance, Actuarial, Strategy, Compliance, HR, and Investment Solutions Analytics to align on financial deliverables and insights.

  • Champion operational improvements, automation, and data integrity in financial reporting and analytics processes.

What Do You Need to Succeed?

  • CPA designation

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in financial reporting and accounting, ideally within financial services, mutual funds, or asset management.

  • In-depth knowledge of IFRS and strong familiarity with regulatory reporting and audit processes.

  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing teams and developing talent.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship management skills.

  • Highly analytical with a passion for continuous improvement, process excellence, and delivering insights.

  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning, budgeting, and variance analysis.

  • Experience with MS Office, Oracle Financials, Tableau, and other BI/reporting tools an asset.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
