Reporting to the Senior Manager, Abilities, Wellness & Ergonomics, the Claims Coordinator is a subject matter expert responsible for the strategic execution and oversight of WSIB claims and disability management programs across Sofina sites. This role requires regular in-person support to multiple sites, engaging a broad range of stakeholders including Operations, Human Resources, Union representatives, and Health & Safety partners. The Specialist ensures compliance with applicable legislation, drives successful stay-at-work/return-to-work (SAW/RTW) outcomes, and provides KPI reporting to senior leaders to support data-driven decision making. This role is critical to maintaining operational continuity, managing risk, and fostering a culture of early intervention and accommodation.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the end-to-end management of occupational and ensuring compliance with WSIB reporting and timelines.
- Analyze case details to determine eligibility, escalate concerns, and develop objection rationales when necessary.
- Act as the primary point of contact with WSIB and site stakeholders throughout the duration of an employee’s case.
- Facilitate and lead RTW and accommodation meetings, proactively identifying barriers and implementing appropriate workplace adjustments, in line with Sofina’s Accommodation Program.
- Ensure the duty to accommodate threshold is met in all accommodation cases, in accordance with applicable legislation and internal policies.
- Provide in-person support through quarterly site visits, building relationships with local teams and addressing site-specific needs, including ad hoc in person support and training.
- Coach and advise site stakeholders, including union representatives, on best practices in accommodation and disability management.
- Monitor and adjust RTW plans to support timely and safe integration into productive duties.
- Maintain accurate, confidential claim files and case documentation; ensure data integrity for audit and reporting purposes.
- Provide expert support during WSIB appeals and represent the employer in related processes.
- Track and analyze disability metrics across all sites; compile and present key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior leaders on case outcomes, claim durations, and program effectiveness.
- Develop and deliver training to key stakeholders, including annual refreshers and onboarding sessions, to ensure consistency and compliance in disability and accommodation practices.
- Foster a collaborative and proactive culture around injury management and workplace accommodations.
- Provide ad-hoc support to HR on complex non-work-related disability leaves.
- A degree or diploma in Health and Safety, Kinesiology, Health Sciences, Human Resources, or related field preferred
- 5-7 years of WSIB claims management experience and accommodation in a unionized environment
- An intermediate understanding of Worker’s Compensation Acts, regulations and policies, disability management best practices and Duty to Accommodate legislation.
- Knowledge of Human Rights and Labour Law
- Ability to manage case load and meet demanding deadlines
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point
