The Team Lead, within the Children and Youth Services department, is primarily responsible for the development and implementation of the Club’s school-age summer day camps as well as the licensed and authorized recreation after school programs during the school year. In addition, the Team Lead is responsible for implementing specialized programs that will enhance the health and well-being of children, youth, and families served by BGCB. The Team Lead, along with all BGC Brantford employees, exemplifies the Mission, Vision and Value of the Club and demonstrates respect, dignity and confidentiality of children, youth, and their families.
Schedule
- June – September, 10:00am – 6:00pm (Monday – Friday)
- October – May, 1:00pm – 9:00pm (schedule likely to vary depending on programming needs including Monday – Friday, Tuesday – Saturday and/or Sunday – Thursday)
- Due the nature of the Club’s business, staff are asked to have flexibility within their schedule. While general work times are posted, the Club cannot guarantee a defined schedule.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Creates and implements content using BGCB’s Model for Success that is specific to creating goals for children and youth that support self-regulation, identity, social inclusion, health and well-being, language and thinking skills and physical literacy.
- Oversees and supports the day-to-day logistics ensuring that all programs and program staff comply with the Club’s values, policies, best practices, and legislative requirements.
- Supervises part time and seasonal program leaders, including providing regular feedback and coaching.
- Ensures programming provides opportunities for active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, individual and group play with other members of the Children & Youth Services team.
- Assists the Children & Youth Supervisor in the assignment and coordination of the daily tasks and job responsibilities of program staff.
- Evaluates programs regularly - soliciting feedback from supervisor, co-leaders, children, and families – and make recommendations to modify/enhance programming and improve the effectiveness of meeting developmental, social and cultural needs of children and youth.
- Observes and assesses children & youth’s progress, behaviour, and engagement to ensure identified individual and group needs are being met.
- Maintains open communication with parents regarding their child’s participation, challenges and/or successes in program.
- Engages with community partners to explore opportunities to enhance the programming offered at, or through, BGC Brantford.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Degree or diploma in Child & Youth Studies, Recreation & Leisure, Social Work, Education, Social or Human Services, or equivalent education in a related field.
Related Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience working with children and youth, aged 5-16
- Previous experience leading others
- Previous experience in program development, execution, and evaluation
Additional Skills:
- Self-motivated and proactive, ability to multi-task, strong time management, strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, creative problem-solving abilities, and strong mediation and conflict resolution skills
- Strong administrative and technological skills (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.),
- Current First Aid/CPR (*required)
- High Five PHCD / QUEST2 is an asset
- F-Class Drivers License is an asset (*will be required upon employment).
JOB CONDITIONS
Physical Demands:
- Lifting of heavy items such as tables, chairs, sporting equipment, etc.
Working Conditions:
- Position works within a climate-controlled facility, however programming requirements will require the position to conduct some job responsibilities in outdoor environments/conditions,
- Due to the large number of children & youth serviced the working environment can be extremely loud during peak hours of operation
- The environment can be fast paced and demanding – position is required to be extremely resourceful, ‘think quick on their feet’, manage multiply tasks and issues, able to prioritize and resolve issues effectively, thoroughly, and effectively.
