We are now accepting applications for from qualified Child, Youth & Family Counsellors (CYFC) , to work with the CYSN Family Support Program, serving the West Kootenay service delivery area.


Hours / Schedule:

  • This is a part-time, temporary position to cover an employee's leave, with an anticipated return in mid-September 2025. There is potential for extension through April 2026.
  • 27 hours per week

Responsibilities:

Child, Youth and Family Counsellor (CYFC) provides therapeutic support and guidance to enhance parenting skills, address barriers to reunification, reduce risk of harm, and strengthen parental capacity to adequately care for their child


  • Provide various services to families and their children and youth aged 0-18, who are eligible for Children and Youth with Support Needs (CYSN) services through the Ministry for Children and Family Development (MCFD).
  • Work with children and youth with an Autism Spectrum diagnosis; developmental disabilities; an FASD diagnosis; with complex developmental behavioural and/or medical conditions or other support needs.
  • Provide in-home assessment, education, support, skill building and behaviour intervention as well as support to coordinate services with other community partners and stakeholders.
  • Work to increase the capacity of families served to respond effectively to their child or youth’s individual needs, and to promote a strong parent-child relationship.
  • Develop an individualized support plan, which may include strategies to reduce problem behaviours using behaviour intervention techniques, build coping and parenting skills, increase parent capacity, and develop community and natural supports.

Preferred Education and Experience:

The Ideal candidate will meet a minimum of one of the following combinations of education and experience:

  • A BSW or a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (Child and Youth Care / Psychology etc.) + 2 years of related experience is strongly preferred.
  • BA + 3-years related experience

To be successful in your role, you'll also need:

  • To be well-versed in trauma-informed care and issues related to family violence, including domestic violence and the effects of domestic violence on children.
  • To be familiar with family law processes regarding custody and access.
  • To be familiar with MCFD operations and service policy in protective family development programs.
  • To have experience working in a coaching and support capacity with parents.
  • To have a strong understanding of strengths-based family systems, attachment-based support and child development.
  • To be skilled at establishing trusting relationships with children, youth, and families.
  • To have experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Candidates for this position will possess sufficient training and experience to perform all responsibilities of the job description, such as knowledge and experience serving the target population, knowledge of developmental behavioural conditions, parenting skills training/support experience.

  • Need a valid BC Driver's License, regional insurance, and a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Must undergo a screening process, including a criminal record search.

Wage / Benefits:

$29.75 – $31.25 per hour to start, based on relevant experience and education.


Upon successful completion of a probationary period, full-time employees (minimum 20-hrs per week) are eligible for a full benefit package (including dental plan, vision coverage, life insurance, extended medical coverage, long-term disability plan, and RRSP or TFSA contributions)
