Performs coordinating services related to the inspection, planning, control and performance of carpentry maintenance and construction activities. Maintains shop and equipment, and performs the duties of a Maintenance Carpenter.



MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates the work of carpentry shop Maintenance Carpenters and assigned utility staff.
  • Coordinates the work of the Project Carpenter on renovation projects.
  • Arranges the work of contractors performing maintenance and renovation projects.
  • Investigates customer requests and complaints, determines and processes follow-up on action.
  • Acts on TRU’s behalf as on-site supervisor and quality control for large internal renovation projects.
  • Acts as TRU on-site representative / liaison for communication and direction with external consultants for large renovation projects.
  • Plans and schedules preventative maintenance work on buildings and equipment.
  • Maintains and processes documentation to control assigned work orders, budgets, accounts, contracts and projects.
  • Inspects buildings and compiles building maintenance and condition reports.
  • Prepares scope of work, cost estimates and schedules for assigned maintenance and renovation projects.
  • Maintains carpentry shop and equipment.
  • Provides detailed schedule updates to TRU management & project manager
  • Performs duties of Maintenance Carpenter

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Grade 12 or GED Equivalency
  • Certificate of Qualification (Carpenter or Cabinetmaker) with Inter-Provincial Red Seal Endorsement


EXPERIENCE:

  • Five years’ experience as a Maintenance Carpenter including a minimum of two years in an institutional environment plus one year in a coordinating capacity


SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to deal with others effectively
  • Ability to coordinate the work of others, including external contractors
  • Ability to interpret blueprints/drawings and prepare project plans and sketches
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes
  • Thorough knowledge of carpentry techniques, tools, materials, quality control and safety requirements
  • Ability to estimate costs of materials and labour
  • Ability to adhere to project schedules and costs


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Minor conditions of continuous exposure OR major conditions of regular exposure; dust, heat and cold, noise and vibration, poor ventilation and restrictive workspace
