We are seeking a compassionate and resourceful Recovery Coach to join our team at the Support Centre, a frontline setting where individuals come directly off the street seeking immediate support. This role is grounded in rapid-response resource connection, with elements of coaching and motivational support embedded in participant care.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Recovery Coach Team Lead, the Recovery Coach is a critical first point of contact for individuals facing substance use, homelessness, or other urgent challenges. The Coach builds trust quickly, assesses needs, and connects participants to appropriate services and support without delay.
Role-Specific Accountabilities
Resource Navigation
- Serve as the first point of contact for participants seeking support, conducting rapid assessments to determine urgent needs.
- Quickly connect participants to housing, treatment, medical, and social services, prioritizing safety and stabilization.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of community-based programs and services for immediate referral and access.
Participant Advocacy
- Collaborate with participants to understand their goals and support their right to self-determination.
- Actively advocate on behalf of participants with service providers to overcome access barriers and systemic challenges.
Coaching and Motivational Support
- Use motivational interviewing and trauma-informed approaches to support participants through early recovery or crisis stages.
Documentation and Confidentiality
- Accurately document participant interactions, service plans, and outcomes in a timely and confidential manner.
- Support program reporting and data collection as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a Recovery Coach, Peer Recovery Support Specialist, or equivalent peer training (strongly preferred).
- 1–2 years of experience in peer support, outreach, crisis work, or social services; lived experience of recovery is a significant asset.
- Deep understanding of substance use, homelessness, and the needs of marginalized populations.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate community resources and service systems effectively.
- Strong interpersonal communication, including active listening and non-judgmental engagement.
- Minimum two years of sustained recovery; must consent to random drug and alcohol screening.
- Proven ability to de-escalate crises and respond in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in a second language is an asset.
