Join the Transit Fleet Engineering & Asset Management team as a Transit Fleet Analyst, where you’ll play a pivotal role in implementing and maintaining policies, plans, and strategies that ensure the long-term sustainability and performance of MiWay’s transit fleet.


This is a unique opportunity to lead innovative fleet planning initiatives, manage procurement projects, and collaborate with stakeholders across all levels of government and the City to deliver safe, reliable, and efficient transit services.

Duties and Responsibilities

Fleet Asset Management

  • Assists the Manager of Transit Fleet Engineering & Asset Management in development and implementation of asset management plans and policies.
  • Manage updates to the transit fleet asset management plan and lead the risk-based prioritization of State of Good Repair asset renewal investments.
  • Generate weekly asset performance reports including but not limited to fleet availability, interior clean data, MTO status, no starts/mechanical change offs/road calls, campaign status, major bus repair status, and commissioning/decommissioning status
  • Retaining and managing consultants for fleet-related asset management project work. This includes developing Request for Proposals (RFPs) and related documents.
  • Develop and manage fleet growth plans to meet ridership requirements while aligning with support of MiWay Five, corporate strategic pillars and the Urban Density plan with the acquisition of assets that will support the need.

Fleet Procurement & Lifecycle Management

  • Assists with the procurement of replacement and growth fleet (i.e. diesel buses, hybrid-electric buses) from the beginning to end, which includes needs assessment, budget allocation, RFT development, evaluation, contract negotiation, pre-production, manufacturing and delivery process, quality assurance/quality control, and asset acceptance.
  • Design and establish a fleet condition program, including but not limited to identifying systems that require tracking, asset tracking naming conventions, effective and efficient mechanisms to collect data, establishing data collection cycles/schedules, etc.
  • Establish comprehensive mechanisms to report on fleet conditions that can easily identify optimal timing for individual asset replacement or when larger fleet-level capital investments would be appropriate.
  • Develop and manage a fleet right-sizing program that acquires the correct type of quantity of MiWay vehicles for the right purpose, to ensure service requirements are met.

Financial Strategy & Budgeting

  • Collaborate with financial stakeholders to develop budgeting and funding strategies for MiWay’s bus fleet based on asset management policies (i.e. business case and justification for necessary investments in fleet maintenance, upgrades, rehabilitation and new acquisitions).
  • Develop financial projection models to ensure anticipated capital funding cash flows are aligned with asset replacement and intervention program.
  • Provide functional guidance on the operating budget to ensure that all MiWay assets have the necessary funding for ongoing repairs and upgrades.
  • Conduct and lead monthly meetings with the Province and Federal representatives to provide updates on funding programs. Progress reports and presentations are to be delivered to funding partners to ensure that any financial, schedule, and/or cash flow risks are identified, and risk mitigation plan is actioned. This may include additional meetings and presentations with senior leadership including Council, Leadership Team, and Directors.
  • Provide data and analytical recommendations for capital and operating budget forecasting based on asset management policies.
  • Provides advice and documentation to all levels of management on an as-needed basis.

Skills and Qualifications

Education & Certifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting or demonstrated equivalent experience is required.
  • Asset Management Professional (AMP) designation or equivalent asset management certification is considered an asset.
  • 310-T or 310-S Technician Certification considered an asset.

Experience:

  • Experience working in a public transit environment is an asset
  • Experience working with low- and/or zero-emission vehicles is an asset.
  • Knowledge of asset management regulations, standards, and industry best practices is an asset.
  • Experience working with Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems, Computerized Maintenance Management System, GIS, and data visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and construction practices.

Other Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, report writing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle are preferred.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 78,602.00 - $ 104,806.00
