Take Your Career to New Heights with Flair Airlines

We’re here to make air travel affordable for everyone, and we’re looking for talented individuals who want to help us continue changing the industry for the better. As Canada’s most reliable airline, we're all about offering real value. As we continue to expand our network, increase flight frequencies, and introduce more services, we’re looking for passionate team members to help us in our mission to make air travel accessible for everyone. We know who we are, and we’re confident in our approach—but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.

Your Team:

Join Flair’s Airport Operations team, where safety, efficiency, and customer service are at the core of every decision. Based at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Abbotsford International Airport (YXX), the Airport Operations Manager provides day-to-day leadership and oversight of above-the-wing and below-the-wing activities. Reporting to the General Manager, Airport Operations, this role manages third-party service providers to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations while maintaining high customer service standards and optimizing ancillary performance.

The Airport Operations Manager is highly engaged and visible in station operations, particularly during peak periods, irregular operations, weekends, and holidays. As part of the leadership rotation, this role works variable hours based on operational demand, including oversight of early morning head-starts and late evening redeyes, ensuring consistent operational excellence across both stations.

This position is based on-site at our offices in Vancouver (YVR).

A Day in the Life:

  • Safety & Training: Promote a strong safety culture and adherence to training standards. Participate in Safety Management System (SMS) processes, investigations, and corrective action plans. Ensure ground handlers consistently meet training requirements and maintain compliance.
  • Ancillary Revenue Optimization: Monitor shift-level ancillary sales and cost data, share insights with station leadership, and implement approved process improvements. Equip station management and agents with the tools and knowledge to enhance ancillary revenue streams. Develop and communicate performance targets while identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Operational Oversight: Maintain a visible presence at check-in, departure gates, and ramps to ensure service provider compliance with safety, reliability, and service standards. Implement immediate corrective actions within delegated authority and report trends to the General Manager. Oversee ground service equipment (GSE) maintenance and operational performance. Conduct weekly reviews with the General Manager and service providers.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with service providers, airport authorities, security, fuel, catering, and other partners. In coordination with the General Manager, attend airport meetings and act as an ambassador to promote Flair’s interests.
  • Policy & Procedure Compliance: Ensure consistent application of operational policies and customer service standards. Provide feedback to service provider leadership and support corrective actions as required.
  • Baggage Services Management: Oversee baggage tracking, handling, and delivery processes carried out by ground handling partners, ensuring compliance with Flair’s policies. Monitor and implement improvements to reduce the station’s Missing Bag Ratio (MBR).

Secondary Job Functions:

  • Provide short-term relief coverage for the General Manager, as delegated.
  • Travel to other network stations for audits, start-ups, or special projects, as required.
  • Support cost management by reviewing ad-hoc operational needs and recommending approval of additional operational expenses.
  • Act as the day-of operational point of contact for CTA, TC, USCBP, and other regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Provide management oversight and act as station point of contact during Irregular Operations (IROP).
  • Leverage company and departmental resources to equip teams with the necessary tools and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of business improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Role:

The preferred candidate should exemplify Flair's core values: honesty, efficiency, accountability, and respect, while demonstrating success in previous roles. Additionally, we are seeking individuals who possess:

  • Education:
    • Post-secondary degree in business or an aviation-related field is considered an asset.
    • Additional training in root cause analysis, project management, or operational efficiency methodologies is considered an asset.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in airport operations.
    • Familiarity with SGHA and IATA contractual frameworks is an asset.
    • Knowledge of aviation regulations, including CARs, APPR, and ATPDR, is an asset.
    • Demonstrated experience in fast-paced operational environments requiring effective resource allocation and decision-making.
    • Prior exposure to air safety legislation, CATSA regulations, and audit program management will be highly regarded.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Proven leadership and change management capabilities, with the ability to address complex situations and manage challenging performance discussions.
    • Strong ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
    • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a strong safety culture and achieving measurable results, including the use of KPIs to monitor performance.
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to effectively triage and resolve operational issues.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Teams) at an intermediate level.
  • Requirements:
    • Clear criminal record check and satisfactory references
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC)
    • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without restriction.
