As our 1st Cook/ Jr. Sous Chef at Market 49 Fine Foods, you will play a key role in supporting the head chef and Sous Chef in the development and execution of our culinary vision. Your creativity and culinary expertise will be instrumental in crafting high-quality frozen meals that highlight the unique flavours of local West Coast ingredients. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dedicated Sous Chef who is looking to contribute to the growth of a local company that prioritizes the use of fresh, local, and sustainable ingredients.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the head chef in the creation and refinement of frozen meal recipes
- Oversee kitchen operations to ensure the highest standards of food quality, taste, and presentation
- Work closely with local suppliers to source high-quality ingredients from within British Columbia
- Efficient management of staff, fostering a collaborative and positive working environment
- Contribute to menu planning, innovation, and the development of seasonal menu items
- Actively participate in the preparation and execution of meals
- Maintain strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef/ 1st cook or in a similar role
- Culinary degree or equivalent experience; willing to train the right candidate
- Strong knowledge of local West Coast ingredients and a commitment to sourcing from within British Columbia
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment
- Flexibility to work evenings, holidays, and occasionally on weekends as needed
- Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is an asset but not required
