The Second Languages division is currently looking for an in-house developmental editor to identify needs and develop products for English as a Second Language (ESL/ELT) and French as a Second Language (FSL) higher education courses.
TC Media Books’ Second Languages division develops print and digital materials for learning English or French as a second language. Our publications are destined for all levels of second-language teaching throughout Canada and internationally.
Responsibilities
- Identifies development opportunities in the markets for which he/she is responsible and participates in defining the publication plan for the second languages division.
- Plans and undertakes market studies (in collaboration with the Senior Director and R&D) to identify needs, validate editorial direction and ensure the success of all publications for which he/she is responsible.
- Defines project concepts, both print and digital, that meet market needs and expectations as well as profitability requirements.
- Recruits authors and collaborators needed for the development of all projects under his/her responsibility.
- Works with editorial teams to ensure projects are published on time, within budget and in accordance with objectives, standards and best practices.
- Develops and maintains a network of key contacts in the field of Second-language learning and teaching.
- Stays abreast of changes in the market and new trends in pedagogy and technology.
Qualifications
- A university degree, preferably in second language education or a related field
- At least five years of relevant work experience in educational publishing, pedagogical content creation and/or second language teaching
- A good understanding of educational technologies (asset)
- Analytical and problem solving skills, ability to understand the needs of the client and to transform them into a value proposition
- Able to manage tight timelines and multiple parallel tasks
- Strong interpersonal skills and is comfortable working in teams
- Demonstrate creativity, curiosity, and excellent general knowledge
- Fluent in French and excellent command of English, both spoken and written (regular communication with French and English-speaking colleagues based in and outside of Quebec)
