The Youth Justice Case Manager will provide personal counselling, harm reduction skills, employment, peer and family counselling services to youth. Areas of service would include stress and anger management, positive communication skills, self-confidence building as well as employment readiness, life skills and independent living. Provide outreach, follow up support and assistance to clients. Develop and facilitate group programming on topics identified as needed to assist these youth. Conduct outreach and liaison in the community to youth and youth serving agencies. The Y adopts a model of support based on the following frameworks: harm reduction, model of change, determinants of health and developmental assets
In this role, you will:
- Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA in Canada.
- Build collaborative working relationships with funding partners, mentors, and other community partners through ongoing reports, communication and visits.
- Prepare and coordinate all monthly reports for the program
- Actively participate with the supervisor and community partners including school systems, youth agencies and potential employers for the youth.
- Provide counselling and advocacy services to youth at various locations throughout the service region as assigned by the supervisor.
- Assist at-risk clients to determine appropriate service delivery or client vocational limits.
- Prepare clients for success through facilitation of individual counselling or group workshops.
- Effectively manage the program including documenting and providing written numerical and statistical reports to the funding agency which includes Youth Probation and Child Protection Workers.
- Consult with social services and community agencies to ensure effective coordination and provision of services.
- Participate in case conferences or consultation where appropriate.
- Ensure all administrative duties, reporting, and file management, are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
- Exercise sound judgment in making decisions which affect the welfare of youth clients.
- Work with youth who might have multiple barriers including those in crisis, on a regular basis, sometimes in isolated situations those experiencing isolation due to language and or cultural barriers.
- Counselling experience both one-on-one and in a group setting
- Post-Secondary Education in Social Services, Child and Youth Worker or combination of education and work experience
- Minimum 2 years’ related work experience
- Knowledge and understanding of community systems and resources
- Experience working with youth facing barriers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including letters, memos, reports and presentations
- Leadership management will be considered an asset
- Healthy Adolescent Development training will be considered an asset
- Ability to write and speak French would be considered an asset
- Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Willingness to participate in mandated training to be completed before or shortly after commencement of work including:
- AODA Training
- Health & Safety Awareness Training
- Bill 168 (Violence & Harassment in the Workplace) Training
- PCI Compliance
- WHMIS
- Child Safeguarding Orientation
- Willingness to be able to work flexible hours based on client needs
