Position Overview: Wills & Estates Law Clerk
As an experienced Wills & Estates Law Clerk at Wilson Cameron Law, your keen attention to detail, expertise and exceptional communication skills will be invaluable. You will contribute to our innovative and client-focused approach and build a rewarding career along the way.
What You'll Be Doing:
- Performing general administrative functions such as opening files, managing record keeping, timelines and task lists, booking appointments, docketing and billing.
- Bringing ideas for improving or optimizing processes and procedures.
- Meeting and interacting with clients and other stakeholders focusing on relationship-building.
- Assisting with drafting of wills and powers of attorney.
- Preparing applications for Certificates of Appointment of Estate Trustees.
- Assisting in assembling and organizing information on assets and liabilities for estate administration purposes, including communicating with estate trustees, beneficiaries, financial institutions, CRA, accountants, etc.
- Advertising for creditors.
- Preparing Estate Information Returns.
- Preparing accounts.
- Preparing typical estate administration documents such as releases, receipts, and directions.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Wills & Estates Law Clerk in a law firm
- Successful completion of a post-secondary legal, paralegal or law clerk program or equivalent experience
- Highly proficient in document drafting and transaction management
- Knowledgeable in Ontario estates law, rules and regulatory requirements
- Detail-oriented and organized with an eagle eye for accuracy
- Able to manage multiple simultaneous and competing demands, priorities, and deadlines
- Focused and able to work effectively and independently with minimal direction and supervision
- Practical and resourceful in problem solving with good judgment and decision-making skills
- Pleasant in demeanour with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Experienced in handling confidential and sensitive information professionally and with discretion
- Eager to learn and comfortable working with new technology and software programs
- Proficient in MS Office
- Experience with Estateably, E-State Planner and Clio would be very desirable
- Experience/knowledge in corporate or real estate law is an asset
