Camp Latona is seeking an experienced and passionate Waterfront Director to oversee all waterfront programming, safety, and staff management. This role requires strong leadership, lifeguarding expertise, and a commitment to fostering an engaging, inclusive, and fun environment for campers of all ages. Camp Latona is located on Gambier Island in the Howe Sound.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety & Supervision: Ensure the highest level of safety for all waterfront activities, including swimming, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, tubing, water skiing, and boating.
- Staff Leadership: Supervise and support the waterfront team, including lifeguards and activity instructors.
- Program Development: Plan and execute engaging waterfront programs that align with Camp Latona’s mission and values.
- Risk Management: Maintain and enforce all safety protocols, conduct daily equipment inspections, and respond effectively to emergencies.
- Camper Engagement: Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages campers to participate and develop water skills.
- Equipment & Maintenance: Oversee the care, maintenance, and inventory of all waterfront equipment and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Collaboration: Work closely with camp leadership and other program directors to integrate waterfront activities into the overall camp schedule.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Certifications (required):
- Current National Lifeguard (NL) Certification (Waterfront Option preferred)
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C
- Boating License (Pleasure Craft Operator Card) or willingness to obtain before camp
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years in a waterfront leadership or lifeguarding role
- Experience working in a summer camp or outdoor education setting is an asset
- Strong skills in swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and motorboat operation
- Leadership & Communication:
- Ability to mentor and lead a team of staff with enthusiasm and professionalism
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make quick decisions under pressure
- Passion for working with children and youth in an outdoor setting
