Overview:
Sco-Terra Operations Group Inc. (“Sco-Terra”) is a private sector firm engaged in the Design-Build-Operate of municipal and private sector drinking-water and wastewater infrastructure, including contracted operations, maintenance and management of water treatment and distribution systems and wastewater collection and treatment facilities. Sco-Terra is seeking Intermediate and Senior Water-Wastewater Operators residing in Essex County, London/Southwest Region and West Central Region (Brant County, Haldimand-Norfolk, Niagara) to operate-maintain-manage wastewater collection and treatment facilities and water treatment and distribution systems at exceptional service levels.
As key members of Sco-Terra’s Project Team, the successful candidates will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of assigned water and wastewater treatment facilities within the respective locations identified. Duties and Responsibilities, subject to Certification and Experience:
- Operate and maintain municipal and private wastewater systems in accordance with MECP Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECA) issued under OWRA s.53, Occupational Health and Safety Act Regulations and contractual obligations.
- Operate and maintain municipal and private water treatment and distribution systems in accordance with Ontario Regulation 170/03 made under the SDWA.
- Monitor supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems and remote monitoring systems for water-wastewater facility process equipment and instrumentation.
- Collect samples and perform in-house lab testing for applicable water and wastewater parameters, including proficient use, handling and maintenance of field instrumentation and lab equipment.
- Complete mathematical calculations necessary to determine flow rates, chemical dosage rates and process performance.
- Analyze, problem-solve, plan and schedule operational activities required to effectively monitor, operate, maintain and manage wastewater facilities, their physical, biological and chemical treatment processes, related equipment and instrumentation.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, collect samples, interpret analytical results and make process control adjustments to resolve operational issues.
- Maintain and repair plant process equipment and instrumentation.
- Perform manual labour and a full range of front-line operational tasks.
- Diligently maintain accurate facility logs and regulatory reporting.
- Update operational data summaries including flow and lab data entry and other operational parameters to effectively operate and maintain water-wastewater facilities and systems.
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual performance reports in accordance with quality management systems and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in preparing and improving Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for water and wastewater unit processes and successful equipment operation and maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in environmental management, environmental -chemical-civil engineering, environmental-chemical-civil engineering technology, technician or a related field acquired through a college diploma program or equivalent education and experience.
- For Operator-In-Training (OIT) candidates, a G12 high school diploma is required.
- OIT to Class IV Wastewater Collection and Treatment Certification (O. Reg. 129/04).
- OIT to Class IV Water Treatment and Distribution Certification (O. Reg. 128/04).
- Operator-in-Charge (OIC) and Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) experience.
- Proven track-record of regulatory compliance.
- Team player with integrity, a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
- Mechanical-Electrical aptitude
- Proficiency in utilizing MS applications Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and Power BI.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, operational logs, record keeping and reporting practices.
- A valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence.
- Availability to perform standby duties and respond to emergency situations outside of regularly scheduled hours.
