About the job

After comprehensive training and your designation as a Provincial Officer, you will:

  • Conduct detailed inspections on your own, check if rules are followed, and write reports mainly focused on drinking water and wastewater facilities.
  • Respond to environmental incidents, follow up to ensure rules are followed, and report on possible environmental impacts.
  • Find, study, and solve complex environmental problems, even when the causes aren't clear.
  • Give authoritative advice on environmental laws.
  • Suggest fixes or legal actions and make sure compliance programs are followed.
  • Testify in court and issue official orders.
  • Maintain good communication with relevant parties, the public, and clients.
  • Take part in the Environmental Response Program outside of regular work hours.

What you bring to the team


Mandatory requirements

  • The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's license or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional on the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's license before being hired.
  • You must have oral and written French language skills at the advanced level. Your proficiency level will be confirmed before hire.


Specialized Knowledge and Experience:

  • You can interpret and apply environmental legislation, regulations, policies, procedures, guidelines and quality standards to assess and promote regulatory compliance.
  • You have knowledge of environmental sciences, technology and protection including:
o Water treatment processes (drinking water and wastewater)
o Actions required to address adverse water quality incidents
o Pollution sources and controls for stationary and mobile sources
o Spills, contamination impacts and clean-up responsibilities
o Sample collection and field measurement equipment and techniques
o Indicators of impacts to human health, flora/fauna and the natural environment

Judgement, Decision Making, Influence and Inspection:

  • You can evaluate situations, assess non-compliance risks, interpret and enforce regulatory requirements.
  • You can recommend corrective measures and influence others to adopt specific actions.


Conflict Management and Partnership:

  • You can identify and take appropriate action in response to issues.
  • You can foster open and constructive dialogue to proactively address and defuse potential conflicts.
  • You can use your communication skills, both oral and written, to explain complex information, maintain documentation, and use computer software.
  • You have experience building relationships and providing professional guidance to diverse clients.

  • You maintain integrity by aligning your actions with organizational values.
  • You can monitor and evaluate your work quality against policies and standards.
