STRABAG is actively seeking a TBM Ring Builder for our Canadian division where he/she can utilize their extensive knowledge to contribute to the continued success and growth of the organization. The successful candidate will be stationed at the project site in Scarborough.
Job Summary
The TBM Ring Builder Operator will ensure the proper placement of precast concrete tunnel segments once the shield has advanced to an appropriate distance. The TBM Ring Builder Operator will ensure that the key position is achieved prior to the starting point of the ring assembly and ensure that the vacuum system is simultaneously in progress as the pre-cast segments are properly installed and sealed.
Duties
- Operate and control the segment erector machine and its components within the EPB Tunnel Boring machine
- Support to the TBM Operator to select the correct Key position for the next ring according to the position of the TBM.
- Understands the theory of segment leading for tunnel in curvature and know how to adjust the segment when there is offset and or a gap
- Tends pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power tools, machinery and equipment
- Lubricates, cleans and repairs machinery, equipment and tools
- Move controls to start and position drills….
- Observe indicator lights and gauges, listen to machine in order to detect binding or stoppage of tools or other equipment issues
- Awareness of the approved emergency procedures, contingency plans, communication procedures and rescue plans. Must be prepared to take charge of all emergency situations within the TBM
- Awareness about safety risks associated with Confined space and the lifting of high weights.
- Responsible for identifying any and all safety hazards and notifying the appropriate persons accordingly
- Ability to perform daily safety and maintenance checks
- Responsible for maintaining good housekeeping and keeping all escape routes clear
- Awareness of Method statements/ work procedures/ break in/ break out procedures
- Physical strength and stamina
Skills
- TBM ring builder is very knowledgeable in the mechanics (including hydraulics) within the TBM EPB machine and is able to trouble-shoot any problems that may be encountered
- Experience in working with technical ground conditions
- The ability to execute the ring installation in a timely manner to ensure ground conditions do not change
- Team player with excellent coordination and communication skills
- Ability to read prints/plans and grade stakes
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years’ experience as a Ring Builder in EPB (earth pressure balance) TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine)
- Experience in universal ring building assemble, operating, maintaining, repairing a 11/12 m in diameter EPB tunnel boring machine
- Experience in working with Herrenknecht EPB TBM is an asset
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be required to lift to 10 lbs.
