Sarens Canada is currently recruiting for a Trailer Operator / Spotter / Helper based out of our Fort Saskatchewan, AB office.
This is a full-time permanent position reporting to the Technical Solutions Operations Manager.
We are seeking motivated and safety-conscious individuals to join our OTR Heavy Transport teams as Trailer Operators, Spotters, and Field Helpers. This can be an entry-level role is ideal for individuals looking to develop a career in engineered heavy lifting and transport operations. You will be trained to operate hydraulic trailers (Goldhofer, SPMT, K24), assist in rigging, vehicle spotting and load movements, and support field crews during critical moves.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the setup, operation, and disassembly of hydraulic platform trailers (SPMT, Goldhofer, K24).
- Perform visual inspections and basic maintenance on transport equipment.
- Operate under guidance to move loads horizontally using remote-control or manually steered hydraulic trailers.
- Spot equipment and vehicle movements on site to ensure safe operations.
- Secure loads using rigging, chains, and tie-downs per load plans.
- Assist in field preparation, coordination, and FLHA’s (Field Level Hazard Assessments).
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and support general site tasks as needed.
- Work closely with experienced operators, riggers, and engineers as part of a highly skilled crew.
- Uphold safety protocols and participate in toolbox talks and SHEQ briefings.
- Follow transport drawings, route plans, and site instructions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical school is a plus).
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Mechanically inclined with a strong interest in equipment and fieldwork.
- Ability to read basic load charts, trailer schematics, or willingness to learn.
- Physically fit to handle lifting, climbing, bending, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel, work overtime, and operate in rotating shifts or weekends as needed.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Safety-first mindset with strong situational awareness.
Preferred (but not required):
- Experience with hydraulic trailers (SPMT, Goldhofer, K24).
- Forklift, rigging, or crane spotter experience.
- Basic understanding of hydraulic systems and controls.
- Prior experience in heavy haul, construction, or logistics.

Wages are based on the current Teamsters Union Agreement Local 362.
