Make a Difference with the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Vancouver Island!
Join our small, but dedicated team at Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. This a temporary, full-time position is ideal for a student returning to school in the fall. In this role, you will support the daily operations of the store by receiving and processing donations, assisting customers, maintaining a clean and organized environment, and ensuring a positive shopping experience.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet and assist customers with purchases, questions, and concerns
- Operate the POS system to complete sales, issue receipts, and balance cash at day’s end
- Accept, sort, and price donations; politely decline unsuitable items
- Maintain clean and organized donation and sales areas
- Display merchandise neatly and restock as needed
- Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and taking out garbage/recycling
- Monitor store safety and security in line Society policies
- Assist with opening and closing duties, including cash handling and reporting
- Support volunteers and help with training or supervision as needed
- Answer phones professionally and assist with inquiries
- Load/unload Society truck or van when required
Our ideal Thrift Store Worker will bring the following:
- High school diploma or GED
- Retail or customer service experience
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
These Skills and Abilities will help you thrive:
- Knowledge of inventory control, shipping, and receiving is an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable using computers and POS systems
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Ability to organize and prioritize own workload.
Additional Requirements
- A criminal record check including a Ministry of Justice Vulnerable Sector Clearance Letter is required prior to hiring.
