TEMPORARY FRENCH ASSISTANT
Ross Road Elementary School
10.2 hours/week, (Tuesday & Thursday) School Term
September 2, 2025 – June 26, 2026 (or return of incumbent)
NOTE: Training and experience with clerical, supervision work while providing French language support and fluent in written and oral French is desired.

THE ROLE
This is general clerical, instructional, and supervision work of considerable variety providing French Language support services in the general office, library or classroom as required. An employee of this class performs general office, library or classroom assistance. Work performance is reviewed and evaluated by an administrator in terms of effective services rendered to the school.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
- Considerable knowledge of conversational and written French.
- Working knowledge of English, spelling and arithmetic.
- Working knowledge of micro-computer operation and software applications.
- Working knowledge of the rules and regulations governing school office, library or classroom practices and procedures.
- Working knowledge of modern office, library or classroom practices and procedures.
- Working knowledge of methods and procedures in controlling and regulating behaviour of students.
- Ability to converse, read and write, fluently in French.
- Ability to operate a micro-computer and software applications to prepare, maintain and produce a variety of materials.
- Ability to maintain order and safety of students using behaviour management and conflict resolution techniques.
- Ability to transcribe, translate English/French
- Ability to operate general office and/or school equipment.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with students, staff and parents in supplying assistance and information.
- Ability to administer basic first aid.
- Skill in keyboarding and the use of a typewriter and micro-computer.
Completion of the 12th grade or equivalent, including courses in French, keyboarding, microcomputer operation and commercial subjects, plus basic first aid. Six months related experience including clerical work and working with children or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
This is a unionized position, and the current rate of pay is $28.85 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits.
