THE OPPORTUNITY
The City of Lacombe is currently recruiting for a temporary Administrative Assistant to join our Planning and Development Services team. Reporting to and under the general direction of the Manager of Planning and Development Services, this position performs a wide variety of clerical and support functions for the department of Planning and Development Services. This position is the primary customer contact and information source for planning inquiries, development and building permits. The purpose of this position is to provide timely and accurate advice, acceptance, processing, calculation, approval and issuance of secondary permits, compliance requests and inquiries from ratepayers, developers, staff, realtors, government agencies and others on a variety of zoning and development matters to ensure that development complies with the City of Lacombe Land Use Bylaw.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proficient computer skills - advanced working knowledge of MS Office including Word, Access and Excel; using ArcGIS is an asset
- Exceptional organization, quality control and time management skills
- Excellent customer service skills, demonstrating an ability to deal with a variety of clientele, in person, in writing and on the phone
- Ability to understand legislative processes as they relate to this role
- Ability to ensure completeness of application submissions
- Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy, positivity, tact and discretion in dealing with requests, complaints and clarification of information
- Ability to complete assignments as required with minimal supervision
- Office Administration Certification; or equivalent
- 2 years of equivalent experience in a planning, legal, local or provincial government office and/or knowledge of planning and development
- Designation of Powers for Alberta Safety Codes (or eligible to obtain)
Salary and Benefits: $30.00 - $37.50 hourly (dependent upon experience).
