Job Summary
A Brief Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Facility Operations and Projects, the Technical Program and Facility Assistant provides ongoing support for the needs of faculty, staff, and external groups, to ensure effective operations are maintained at the Faculty of Education. Applying strong logic and problem-solving the Technical Program and Facility Assistant will use their skills to assist in planning and coordinating facility operations, maintenance, and renewal. The incumbent will assist in administering security access control and surveillance systems and safety programs applicable to the operations of the department. This role will work to support the Technology and Science Education programs, assisting with the teaching of Broad-Based Technologies, providing workshop/lab set-up, preparation of materials for classes, and supervision of equipment use to ensure a safe class environment. As required, the incumbent will assist with administration duties, providing information to general inquires, and support the administration for technical program admissions. This role works closely with the IT support team to ensure an effective delivery of support services. Responsible for assisting in the administration of special departmental projects and ensuring assignments are carried out in an efficient and effective manner.
Experience is preferred in at least one broad based technology discipline (Communications Technology, Computer Technology, Construction Technology, Green Industries, Hairstyling and Aesthetics, Health Care, Hospitality and Tourism, Manufacturing Technology, Technological Design and Transportation Technology).
This position performs routine facility maintenance. This position maintains equipment and tools including inventory and coordination with campus services and/or external contractors. This position provides first line technical support for classrooms and equipment. This position assists with the training of faculty and staff and directs, allocates, and supervises the work of casual and student staff. This position also performs administrative support duties.
The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work frequent early mornings, evenings and weekends, according to program or area needs.
Job Description
What you will do
Performs routine facility maintenance.- Maintains facility access and control systems.
- Performs and documents regular inspections of safety equipment.
- Assists in the receiving and/or delivery of packages and large orders.
- Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.
Maintains inventory and supply of assets, equipment, tools and consumable materials.
Maintains equipment and tools, including minor repairs and the coordination of major repairs.
Coordinates with campus services and/or external contractors on facility-related maintenance and repairs.
Assists with planning and booking of space.
Provides first line technical support for classrooms and equipment including printers, computers, TVs, projectors, and teleconference systems.
Updates and maintains workplace health and safety requirements including inspections, completing inventory and training lists.
Creates and maintains documentation for the operation of software, hardware, equipment, tools, and operational processes.
Assists with the development and training of faculty and staff on applications and operational processes.
Directs, allocates, and supervises the work of other staff.
Performs administrative support duties including responding to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
Assists with budget preparation and allocation activities including monitoring spending related to maintenance, repairs, and equipment.
- Three-year Community College Diploma or Three-Year Bachelor Degree, or equivalent. Working at Heights training considered an asset.
- Joint Health & Safety Committee certification considered an asset.
Crane and hoist operation training considered an asset.
- More than 2 years and up to and including 3 years of experience.
- Experience operating, maintaining and/or calibrating laboratory equipment is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a woodshop considered an asset.
- Experience in graphic design and production with a familiarity of graphic/multi-media design tools and technologies considered an asset (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, ProTools, AfterEffects, etc.).
