We’re looking for a Team Lead, Distribution System Planning to shape the future of Calgary’s power distribution system and lead the talented team behind it. In this role, you’ll coach and guide a team of Engineers and Technologists responsible for planning and developing a distribution system that’s safe, reliable, and ready to meet the evolving needs of our customers.
You’ll have a direct hand in forecasting growth, solving complex system challenges, and integrating emerging technologies like distributed energy resources (DERs) and electrification solutions. From developing creative solutions for capacity and reliability, to supporting regulatory requirements and capital planning, your leadership will help ensure the system remains future-ready and customer-focused.
Major Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning and development of a safe, reliable and customer focused EPC Distribution system. Specific deliverables include:
- Creating a 10-year load forecast for the system.
- Assessing the system for reliability and capacity issues.
- Develop and deliver creative solutions to address system issues.
- Evaluate and facilitate customer service connections.
Develop new planning practices to manage increasing DER penetration, and electrification.- Maintain line of sight of emerging technologies that may impact the system.
- Ensure EPC Distribution system development abides to regulatory requirements.
- Lead the development of timely, thorough, and prudent business case justifications for System Development projects to obtain internal (Management) and external (AUC, AESO) approvals.
- Ensure that processes, guidelines, and criteria are developed, sustained, or improved upon.
- Manage capital budgeting and forecasting requirements for System Development and Customer Connection projects.
- Stewardship of System Development programs from ideation to close out.
- Support or Lead Regulatory Requirements.
- Lead and coach a team of Engineers and/or Technologist. Ensure team members engagement and alignment with overall department and corporate goals and objectives including areas of personal development, compliance, and leadership development.
- Support leaders by undertaking other duties as necessary to advance business objectives.
Education Required:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
- P.Eng status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA)
Qualifications & Experience:
- 10 years’ experience in a utility environment
- Knowledge of the Alberta Regulatory Environment and AESO processes
- Strong understanding of electrical systems and system planning concepts

- High level of business acumen
- Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
- Capacity to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
