We are looking for a positive, community-oriented person to provide partnership and support to a young man in Whitby. He has a deep interest in and knowledge of culture and history and enjoys exploring both familiar and new places.
This is a weekend opportunity to spend a day doing meal preparation (planning, shopping for ingredients, cooking and baking) as well in the community and surrounding areas, taking advantage of events, museums and other locations of interest and getting to know associated people and places.
We are interested in someone who has:
- Saturdays or Sundays available
•A reliable insured vehicle and clear driver’s abstract
•A police check specific to the Vulnerable Sector, or a willingness to obtain one
•A willingness to explore local and surrounding areas (this is sometimes an “out and about” role)
•An interest in culture, history and community events
•An ability to notice opportunities for social or interest-based connections and to follow up and keep those in mind
•A sensitivity to the pacing of activity by observing and listening to the man’s cues, requests and wishes
•An ability to source out places of interest and generate ideas while still collaborating with the young man and his family as to how time is spent.
This is an independent contract position and invoices are submitted directly to the family. The rate of pay is $22/hour and mileage incurred during the support is reimbursed.
