Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Support Worker to join our high-risk support home for children with behavioral challenges and diagnosed conditions. This role requires patience, resilience, and a commitment to helping young individuals manage their behaviors while fostering personal growth and stability. The ideal candidate will be actively involved in daily activities, outings, and meal preparation, creating a safe and nurturing environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to children with diagnosed behavioral conditions, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Assist with daily routines, including personal care, cleaning, and meal preparation to ensure a healthy and hygienic living environment.
- Plan, prepare, and cook meals for the clients according to their dietary needs.
- Engage children in recreational and therapeutic activities, encouraging positive behavior and skill development.
- Implement individualized care plans in collaboration with healthcare professionals, including psychologists, therapists, and caseworkers.
- Manage challenging behaviors using approved intervention techniques, focusing on de-escalation and positive reinforcement.
- Foster a structured, supportive environment where children feel heard and respected.
- Participate in physical activities, outings, and recreational programs to help children develop social and coping skills.
- Documentation: Ensure accurate and timely completion of documentation within the database, including daily logs, contact notes, and Critical or Noteworthy Incident Reports.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children in a group home or similar high-risk setting is highly desired.
- Knowledge of behavioral management techniques, including de-escalation and crisis intervention, is an asset.
- Experience in meal preparation and maintaining a clean living space for clients.
- Physically active and able to engage in outings and physical activities with children.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills to work effectively with children, families, and the care team.
- Compassionate and patient nature with a genuine passion for working with at-risk youth.
- Ability to manage stressful situations and remain calm under pressure.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and on-call as required.
Required
- Police Check with Vulnerable Sector within the last 6 months.
- Child Intervention Check within the last 6 months.
- Current certification in First Aid with Level C CPR & AED.
Preferred
- Post-secondary education in social work, psychology, or a related field.
- Certifications in Trauma-Informed Care, Food and Safety, Suicide Prevention, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and Conflict Resolution.
- Class 5 Driver's License.
