The Program
Taproot Community Support Services (formerly WJS Canada) works to improve the lives of persons in their communities through a variety of programs and services.
The Strong Families program, under contract by Children's Services, uses Signs of Safety and strengths-based approach, to support youth & families in Vegreville and area with developing healthy interpersonal skills, self-esteem, conflict management, parenting, home management, financial skills, and overcoming barriers such as addictions and mental health.
It also helps families and youth access community resources/programs (recreation, child care, employment supports & job coaching, addictions support, family counselling, etc.), and build a support network for future growth and success.
In Your Role You Will
- Travel in your own vehicle (mileage reimbursed) or company vehicle, to family homes and communities in the service area.
- Provides flexible and responsive support to address children, youth, family or caregiver needs.
- Oversees and manages service plan goals and objectives.
- Provides care though individual program plans while respecting choices, decisions and needs of families.
- Establishes trusting relationships with families to assist them toward development of interpersonal communication skills, daily living skills, and other areas of interest.
- Accommodates and respects cultural, social and religious heritage.
- Collaborates and/or works as team with community systems (i.e. school), specialized service providers, volunteers and extended family members.
- Conducts family visits in the community and is available for evening/weekend visits and/or on standby as required.
- Prepares and submits reports as per specifications and deadlines.
- Adheres to protocols that relate to abuse and appropriately reports safety concerns.
- Advocates minimizing risks and promotes opportunities to maximize and/or enhance community, family and individual support networks for individuals.
- Represents Taproot with professionalism and respect within our communities.
- Adheres to ethical/professional standards, performing all program activities in accordance with Taproot policies and procedures as well as program specific policies, Children and Family policies, accreditation and core standards
The Position
Scheduling:
One (1) temporary full-time position that will work 40 hours per week;
- 0830-1630 Monday through Friday.
- Position will require flexibility, in order to support families during evenings & weekends when they are gathered together and require the most support.
- Duration of position is dependent on incumbent (estimated 3 months)
**Qualification requirements deem this to be Family Support Worker Level 2.**
Mandatory Pre-Employment Screenings and Checks
*** Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.
As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
- Social Work Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Youth Work, Social Service Worker, Addictions, etc.
- 2+ years social work experience in family support/intervention, youth work, trauma, etc.
- Previous experience in developing community events and projects to engage with youth and families, is desirable.
- Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act
- Knowledge of aboriginal culture is an asset
- Suicide Intervention and Prevention Training and cultural sensitivity
- Clear Criminal Record and Child Welfare Intervention check
- MUST HAVE Driver’s License, vehicle with appropriate insurance, and clean driver’s abstract
- First Aid / CPR Certificate
- Highly motivated, and able to work independently
